On Thursday, the American Gaming Association (AGA) announced its collaboration with the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) to promote responsible sports wagering via the Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly. campaign.
The Have a Game Plan public service campaign is an AGA-run initiative spread across major professional sports leagues to increase awareness for responsible and regulated wagering websites and practices. The campaign also seeks to introduce responsible guidelines for gambling while marketing for sportsbook giants like FanDuel and DraftKings.
The initiative was launched in 2019 and has been active since then, reeling in new partner leagues. The WNBA is the newest addition and will work alongside other leagues like the National Basketball Association (NBA) as well as sports teams.
The WNBA intends to provide turnkey resources for all 12 teams to aid in educating its fans on responsible sports betting and amplify the campaign’s message.
Some of the Have A Game Plan campaign content will feature in-app and website integration in WNBA’s WNBABet tab and content. It will also include broadcast, in-venue, social media, and digital activations.
While talking about their newest move, the WNBA Chief Growth Officer, Colie Edison, stated that the league was dedicated to making sure people who bet on their games possessed relevant knowledge before doing so.
“WNBA fans are always looking for new and exciting ways to immerse themselves in our game, and legal sports betting has opened the door for deeper engagement with our league,” Edison said.
“As we explore this new avenue, the WNBA is committed to ensuring those who choose to wager on our league have the knowledge and tools to do so responsibly.”
The WNBA and its member teams will begin campaign activities on Friday, May 19, at the launch of the 2023 WNBA season. This will carry on throughout the regular season and playoffs of the league and see several such initiatives take place.
AGA’s Senior Vice President Casey Clark revealed that amplifying the voice of the campaign among existing basketball fans was one of their primary goals.
“The WNBA’s commitment to Have A Game Plan will expand the campaign’s reach to new and existing basketball audiences,” Clark disclosed.
“As legal sports betting matures across America, reaching the market’s broad group of diverse participants will require exactly the kind of leadership the WNBA, NBA, and all of our Have A Game Plan partners have shown.”
AGA’s Have A Game Plan campaign was created to promote education and awareness in sports betting and in the process, cultivate a more thoughtful and safe gambling environment for sports enthusiasts.
The initiative follows the four responsible wagering principles, which include setting a budget and standing by it, playing with regulated operators, knowing the odds, and keeping the entire activity social.
Since its launch in 2019, the AGA has partnered with legal and regulated sports betting and casino entities like Bally’s Corporation, BetMGM, Entain, Parx Casino, Barstool Sportsbook, betPARX, PENN Entertainment, DraftKings, FanDuel, Rush Street Interactive, MGM Resorts International and others.
Have A Game Plan has also teamed up with major sports leagues and teams such as the Major League Baseball, NHL, PGA TOUR, USFL, NASCAR, Washington Commanders, New York Knicks, New York Rangers, New York Jets, and the Vegas Golden Knights.
