And while he is not a prolific ace hitter – usually because the matches don’t go long enough – he has still won punters $28 extra dollars across his three matches, with 10 aces on the opening day in an easy win over Hyeon Chung and another nine in his demolition of Quentin Halys in the second round. Another nine came in the straight sets win over Andreas Seppi last night as he continued on his quest for six Australian Open titles. Simon has actually beaten the world number once – that was six years ago, back in 2008 when he knocked him over in the round of 16 at a Mickey Mouse tournament in Marseille. Since then, the pair has met nine times and Djokovic has dropped just four sets on his way to nine straight wins. It’s about to be 10 straight and you’re going to get a few extra dollars with your tiny return on the win bet.

Roger Federer ($1.03) vs. David Goffin ($12.50)

As we mentioned, our man Federer slammed a lazy 25 aces in his three set win over Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov, 6-3, 7-5, 6-1. He had a bit of a tougher time of it against 27th seed Grigor Dimitrov, but still did the business over four sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, and still sent down 13 aces for an extra $13. Roger Federer climbed into rarefied territory with the third round win on Rod Laver Arena, clinching his 300th grand slam match, becoming the only man to do so in tennis history. “It’s very exciting, I must tell you,” said Federer of the milestone. “Like when I reached 1000 (tour-level wins) last year, it was a big deal for me. Not something I ever aimed for or looked for, but when it happens, it’s very special. You look deeper into it, I guess, where it’s all happened and how. So it’s very nice. I’m very happy.” He should have no trouble making it win number 301 against improving 15th seed David Goffin, and he should fire down plenty of aces to bolster the betting kitty.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ($1.97) vs. Kei Nishikori ($1.84)

The popular Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga might not be the favourite in this close match up with the Korean Nishikori, but he is the favourite for plenty of aces. The big server is the bet of the day after banging down 23 aces in a straight sets win over compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert, 6-4, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-4). He had 14 against Omar Jasika in the second round and another 13 against adopted Aussie Marco Bagdhatis. He’s starting to hit form and, with the diminutive Nishikori at the other end, you can expect him to fire down plenty of aces in this one. We like the $1.97 about him too, so, if he wins, you’ll get a juicy double dip.

Serena Williams ($1.02) vs. Margarita Gasparyan ($13)

The girls don’t represent as much value as the boys, but if you’re going to back any one, Serena is your girl. The Australian Open title favourite and World Number One has hardly broken a sweat in her quest for an unprecedented seventh grand slam victory down under. The most powerful woman, perhaps ever to play – apologies to Amelie Mauresmo – Williams, at 34, is still destroying her opposition. She has 21 grand slams and four Olympic gold medals. It is hard to find an athlete on the planet with a more complete body of work. She needs three more grand slams to pass the immortal Margaret Court, a feat that could be completed this year, starting with the Open. The Russian-Armenian does not stand a chance here and, despite Williams’ expected skinny odds, she should still be good enough for an extra $9 or $10 in your kitty. She’s popped out nine, seven and six aces in her three matches. Hey, it’s better than bank interest.
