Soccer fans will have a little treat this week as the English Premier League returns with six midweek matches. A lot of these are rescheduled games due to COVID, coming in the midst of an already packed fixture.

The Premier League is officially a two-horse race for the crown between Liverpool and Man City. Both teams will be playing in this slate and all eyes will be on them.

However, potentially the most interesting aspect of the season to this point has been the UEFA Champions League qualifying race. There are four teams who are shifting in and out of the last spot and it feels like no one wants to lock it up.

Liverpool vs Manchester United

This is going to be an awesome game. The line suggests Liverpool will dominate, but there is a ton of value on United. Despite it being an away game, United have the ability to beat anyone. Their issue is consistency and while Liverpool are better, United can put together a good 90 minutes and pull off the stunner. Guys like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Bruno Fernandes have the talent to take this game over with a moment of brilliance, and that simple fact makes United a good bet in this game. They definitely are the underdog, but this line is way too high and it is worth tossing a small bet on Man U.

Liverpool are a great team and absolutely rolling. They are in the midst of a Premier League title race, a Champions League run and an FA Cup run. Simply put, they have a lot on their minds right now and it’s feasible that they rest some players in this fixture. Of course, they won’t completely overlook United, but they have been playing a lot of high-intensity soccer recently. There’s a good chance that Liverpool drop a dud in the coming weeks, and it’s possible that United take advantage of that in this game. Liverpool should win, but crazier things have happened and United could be a live underdog in this matchup.

Chelsea vs Arsenal

This game will be very entertaining. Chelsea have a stranglehold on a top-four spot and Arsenal are battling for the fourth spot. Unfortunately for the Gunners, however, they have stunk recently. They have lost three very winnable games in a row and are losing all the good will they earned with a strong run of midseason form. Simply put, Arsenal are out of sorts right now and cannot be trusted. They appear to have lost their scoring form, which is a huge concern when playing against a good defensive team like Chelsea.

Chelsea have figured out their recent problems and have been playing good soccer. They have established themselves as a very balanced team that will not make many mistakes. At home, they will have the crowd on their side and should be able to parlay their recent form into another big win. Chelsea have a bunch of goalscorers, and if they can finish, Arsenal’s porous defense will lend them plenty of opportunities. Take Chelsea at home as Arsenal suffer another blow in their for Champions League qualification.

Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace

Since Newcastle changed coaches last November, they have the second-most points in the entire league behind only Liverpool. They have been on fire recently and have won their last two matches. They spent a lot of money in January, so that is a factor, but it is still remarkable. They are now firmly out of the relegation zone and have rescued their season. They are playing great soccer as of late and should be able to handle an inferior Palace squad.


Crystal Palace are no slouches, but this is a tough spot for them. They will be away against an in-form squad and will be overmatched by Newcastle’s physicality. They have struggled away all season and that trend will likely continue. Palace have lost their last two games, and while they were against better teams, Newcastle fall into that category as well. This line is disrespectful to Newcastle’s recent play, and that makes the Toon a great bet in this Wednesday fixture.
