After a crazy night in the capital, the Houston Rockets head to Long Island, NY, to take on a slow-starting Brooklyn Nets side as the 2019/20 NBA season continues on Friday night.

The Rockets have won three in a row after losing their season opener and they made some history in their last game, beating the Washington Wizards 159-158 to set a new record for most combined points in a game decided by a single point.

The Nets have lost their last two games and sit at 1-3 even though they have played only one team that made the NBA Playoffs last season. The defense, or lack of it, is hurting Brooklyn, who gave up 134 and 118 points respectively in their last two losses.

Something has got to give in this NBA non-conference matchup, as both teams are 0-4 against the spread. Last season these teams split the two games facing one another, with each winning on the road.

In their historic win over the Wizards, the Rockets forced 19 turnovers and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds. While they shot 53.4% from the floor, they allowed Washington to shoot 62.6%.

James Harden, who ranks fourth in the NBA with a ppg average of 29.3, was huge in the win over the Wizards, going for 59 points on 18/32 shooting. Russell Westbrook (24.3 ppg) had 17 points but was only 7/16 from the floor after scoring at least 21 points in each of his first three games.

The Harden and Westbrook tandem has worked out pretty well on the season, as each is averaging over 24 ppg. Westbrook is also averaging 12.7 rebounds and 9.7 assists per game and the loaded Rockets have six players that are averaging in double figures for scoring.

In their 118-108 loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Net had 20 turnovers and only forced nine. Kyrie Irving, who leads the NBA score averages at 37.7 ppg, led Brooklyn with 28 points and Spencer Dinwiddle came off the bench to go for 20 points.

The Nets have five players averaging at least 12 ppg. While Irving is lighting it up in points, he has failed to shoot over 41.7% from the floor in his last three games and in two of them failed to shoot over 33%.

The Nets are biding their time until Kevin Durant comes back from injury and Kyrie’s mood has already been in question for the bad start for Brooklyn.
