Liverpool’s second match of the 2018/2019 English Premier League season will see them take on Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The match, which is scheduled to take place under the Selhurst Park floodlights, will be the final piece of action for Match Week 2 of the new EPL season.

The Red’s launched their campaign in devastating fashion as they annihilated West Ham United with a 4-0 win to register the biggest victory of the opening weekend. Mohamed Salah, who was Liverpool’s breakout star last season having scored a staggering 44 goals in all competitions, didn’t take long before finding the back of the net.

The Egypt international connected with Andy Robertson’s cross in the 19th minute to score the easiest of tap-ins, in what was the first competitive goal for the Reds this season. With the Hammers seemingly under the cosh after the opener, the nervousness around their backline invited pressure; one which saw Sadio Mane double the advantage for the hosts right at the tail end of the first half.

The 26-year old forward, who was comically unmarked from six yards, calmly converted James Milner’s cutback before doubling his account for the day soon after the restart. Although he may have to a marginal degree appeared offside as he got on the finishing end of Roberto Firmino’s pass, the goal stood as the flag stayed down.

West Ham’s humiliation was completed when Daniel Sturridge, who had only just made his way from the bench, scored with his first touch in the 88th minute. It was a revving start for the Reds and a treat for the Anfield faithful; one that assuredly hallmarked their credibility for the Premier League title.

Liverpool however weren’t the only side to register a win on the opening weekend, as Crystal launched off their sixth consecutive season in the EPL will a 2-0 win over newly promoted Fulham. Jeffrey Schlupp scored the opener four minutes from the break after being left unmarked by former Arsenal defender Calum Chamber, but it was Wilfried Zaha that ensured the Eagles left Craven Cottage with maximum points after he slotted a collected finish eleven minutes from stoppage time.

The win was a massive result for Palace, considering the lengths they went to maintain Premier League status after a poor start last season. Their mettle will however be tested against a Liverpool side that can only get better over the course of the season, having received a huge facelift in the recently closed transfer window.

The Reds will nonetheless be without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Dejan Lovren for their trip to London. The former continues to be a long-term absentee after he sustained a nasty knee injury towards the end of last season- one that disappointingly ruled him out of the World Cup- while Lovren has a pelvic issue picked up in Russia while on international duty with Croatia.

Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan could be additional absentees for Liverpool with minor stains, in stark contrast to Crystal Palace who should have everyone available for selection.
