Super Bowl LIII MVP analysis, market value odds & best betting tips

WHO will be crowned the king of the greatest show in US sport?

Super Bowl LIII is less than a week away and there is no lack of great betting action on the huge battle between the LA Rams and New England Patriots.

One of the most popular markets in Super Bowl betting and one of the most prestigious awards in all of sport is the Most Valuable Player award.

The question coming into Super Bowl LIII is whether an old warrior can take the title one more time.

Tom Brady.

It’s no surprise that Brady is the favourite to win this year’s Super Bowl MVP. Brady has been a part of five Super Bowl victories — four of which he clinched the MVP title in.

Let’s take a look at how the betting market is shaping up.

Super Bowl MVP – it’s typically all about the quarterback

The quarterback is the most important position in football, so it is no shock that the QB has won the MVP award the most times.

Here is the break-up of what position has won the MVP in the 52 Super Bowls:

  • Quarterback – 29
  • Running back – 7
  • Wide receiver – 6
  • Linebacker – 4
  • Defensive back – 2
  • Safety – 2
  • Cornerback – 1
  • Kick-returner – 1

Top 10 Super Bowl MVP betting chances

Tom Brady +125

Brady is the odds-on favorite to win the Super Bowl MVP for the fifth time and he has been solid in the playoffs. He did only have one touchdown and two interceptions in the AFC title game, but also passed for 348 yards and led the Pats on the game winning overtime drive, converting three 3rd and 10 situations. If the Rams stuff the run like they did in their NFC title game win over the New Orleans Saints, Brady will have to do it all and he has been in that position before.

Jared Goff +250

Goff has the second-best odds to win the MVP trophy, but he has never played in the Super Bowl. In fact, he will become the youngest starter in Super Bowl history. He has been solid in the playoffs and much like Brady he will have to do it all if the Patriots stuff the Rams’ run game like they did to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.

Todd Gurley +1000

Gurley rounds out the top three of MVP betting, but after rushing for 115 yards in the win over the Dallas Cowboys in the first game in the playoffs he only rushed for a grand total of 10 yards on four carries in the NFC title game. Still, if the Rams pound the ball on the ground like they did against Dallas than Gurley has a shot.

Sony Michel +1200

Michel may be a good bet because of how the Patriots have played in the playoffs. They have pounded the ball on the ground in their two playoffs games and he has rushed for at least 113 yards in each of the two New England wins.

C.J. Anderson +1600

C.J. Anderson is in the same boat as Gurley. He was great in the win over Dallas on the ground, but struggled in the NFC title game. Still, while he was not signed until late in the season he had three straight games of at least 123 rushing yards before only rushing for 44 yards in the win over the Saints.

Aaron Donald +1800

Darnold may be a good pick, as he will likely be picking up his second straight Defensive Player of the Year award this season and to win the Super Bowl MVP he will have to wreak havoc in the New England backfield and get to Brady a few times.

James White, Julian Edelman +2000

White and Edelman are both New England wide receivers and represent real long shots for punters in this market. If one has a big game Brady will be the one giving them the passes and it would be hard not to give him the MVP. The Pats spread the wealth when it comes to the passing game, so for one to have a HUGE game the other may not do much and that does not happen with the balanced New England offense.

Rob Gronkowski +3000

Can Gronk become the first tight end to ever win the Super Bowl MVP? The odds-makers don’t think so and either do we. Gronkowski is still not 100% healthy and has only had two games with over 100 receiving yards for the entire season — one of which came in the season opener.

Brandin Cooks +4000

Rams wide receiver Cooks is a long-shot to win the award, but if he has a big game you never know. He had 107 receiving yards in the win over New Orleans in the NFC title game, but will have to have much more than that to win the Super Bowl MVP.
