Thursday Night Football returns for Week 2 of the NFL with an exciting matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings at Lincoln Financial Field. Here are our free NFL betting picks for Thursday, September 14.
Neither of these teams played to their potential in Week 1. The Vikings lost a winnable game, and the Eagles barely eked out a victory in a contest they were expected to dominate. With a Thursday game on short rest, we anticipate more mistakes from both sides. Consequently, we’re inclined to take the heavy underdogs to keep it close. While the Vikings have a struggling defense, the Eagles’ offense appeared out of sync last weekend, and it might take a couple of weeks to find its rhythm. On the flip side, the Vikings looked explosive in their passing game, whereas the Eagles surrendered the fourth-highest number of passing yards among all teams in Week 1.
A.J. Brown has significantly bolstered the profile of the Eagles’ offense. Although the star receiver had a modest 79 yards in Week 1, he’s more than capable of surpassing that figure. The Vikings struggled last week to contain another big-bodied receiver, Mike Evans, who torched them with a 28-yard touchdown catch late in the game as the Buccaneers saluted in Minnesota. Brown, a more talented player than Evans, should exploit his size advantage and dominate on Thursday against a vulnerable Vikings secondary.
While Minnesota running back Alexander Mattison didn’t have an exceptional performance in Week 1, he was on the field a lot and managed to score through the air. He is likely to see significant playing time in this game – especially in goal-line situations, where his physicality makes him a prime option. Despite the Eagles boasting a strong run defense, Mattison can make an impact in the passing game, and given our expectation that the Vikings will score in bunches, this represents a great value bet.
