BOOKMAKERS and punters alike are sticking with Dustin Johnson in the outright betting for the 2018 BMW Championship.
The world number one is the +850 favourite at Bovada despite finishing outside the top five at both the Northern Trust (tied 11th) and the Dell Championship (tied seventh).
The question of the moment is whether DJ – or anyone – can keep up with Bryson DeChambeau.
The man they call the ‘Mad Scientist’ became the first back-to-back on the PGA Tour this year when he romped to a four-shot victory at TPC Boston on Monday.
He started that event as a +2500 chance, but the bookies have him sharing a +1600 quote with Rory McIlroy for the third leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
Justin Rose put together an excellent week to claim outright second at the Dell, so it is no great surprise to see him on the second line of betting at +1200.
Another one to watch is Cameron Smith (+4500), who may fancy his chances at Aronimink Golf Club after consecutive top-three finishes.
It was another Australian, Marc Leishman, who went to wire-to-wire at Conway Farms to win this event last year, and he is paying +5500 to defend his title.

Best bet: Justin Rose
- +1200 to win at Bovada
- +110 to finish top 10
- +300 for top European player
When Rose finds his groove with his irons, there are few better ballstrikers on tour. When he couples that with a warm putter, the South Africa-born Englishman is very hard to beat. Last week’s effort at the Dell Championship should set him up for a strong finish to the season with the Ryder Cup on the horizon.
Hot streak: Bryson DeChambeau
- +1600 to win at Bovada
- +150 to finish top 10
- +900 for top American player
If he hadn’t already, DeChambeau has well and truly played himself into the USA Ryder Cup team over the past fortnight. This is not a textbook golfer by any measure, but his skill, nerve and desire to win are there for all to see. In this kind of form, +150 for top 10 looks like money for jam.
Top value: Cameron Smith
- +4500 to win at Bovada
- +350 to finish top 10
- +300 for top Australian player
Smith looked poised for a breakout season in the States before missing five cuts in a row in the middle of the year. Now, with nine consecutive rounds under 70, the young Queenslander is back in the kind of touch that saw him tie for fifth at the Masters. Top Aussie is a tough market, but +350 for another top 10 could be a winner.
