2019 FIBA World Cup betting tips, odds and predictions – Day 2

FIBA Basketball World Cup quarter final predictions

On the first day of September, 16 teams will look to start off strong in their quest to win the 2019 FIBA World Cup in day 2 of tournament action.

Here is the schedule and betting odds for Day 2 of the FIBA World Cup:

Canada vs Australia (-6) O/U 167
New Zealand vs Brazil (-9) O/U 164.5
Turkey (-13) vs Japan O/U 159.5
Dominican Republic (-12) vs Jordan O/U 154.5
Senegal vs Lithuania (-25.5) O/U 149.5
Greece (-12.5) vs Montenegro O/U 150.5
Czech Republic vs USA (-32.5) O/U 175
France (-9) vs Germany O/U 152

The best game on day 2 may be the first one between Canada and Australia, who are in Group H in the Group of Death, and is also the game with the closest odds with the Aussies a 6-point favorite. France is nearly a double-digit favorite facing longtime rival Germany and the USA begins their quest as the major favorite to win the World Cup against Czech Republic, who are massive betting underdogs. Let’s take a closer look at those games.

Canada vs Australia (-6) O/U 167

Canada, Australia, and Lithuania have fairly even odds to win Group H, so this opener is key for both teams. The all-time series is split at 3-3 with these teams and in two World Cup tune ups in Australia Down Under in August Canada won the first game 90-70 with Australia winning the 2nd one 81-73.

Both teams have several players pining in the NBA and Australia had a pretty easy qualifying process even not fielding their best teams. Patty Mills, Andrew Bogut, and Joe Ingles lead the charge for the Aussies and Bogut and company have a tall task trying to contain Canada FW Kelly Olynyk, who average 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in World Cup qualifying.

Australia also comes into the tournament with confidence beating Team USA in August to snap the Americans 78-game international win streak. They are slightly better than Canada on paper, even without Ben Simmons, and they will win and cover in this opening game.

France (-9) vs Germany O/U 152

This Group G opener may be for the top spot in the group since the other teams in the Dominican Republic and, especially Jordan, are long shots to win the group.

France has the defensive stopper in two-time reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year in Rudy Gobert and they have scoring as well with the likes of NBA players Nicolas Batum and Evan Fournier. Dennis Schröder leads the Germans and the Oklahoma City G has average 15 ppg in his last three seasons in the NBA. However, can Germany get other players to step up in the scoring department, especially facing 7’2” Gobert protecting the rim? Big question.

The Germans have the size inside, but Gobert is not a big-time scorer and France has more playmakers. That will be key in this game, as France will show they are on a mission to improve on their 2014 World Cup bronze medal finish with a convincing win in this opener winning and covering the spread.

Czech Republic vs USA (-32.5) O/U 175

Ok, so not many are giving the Czechs a chance, especially the oddsmakers with them getting a whopping 32.5 points. Team USA is not the star studded team they have been in the past and they have heard about it. They also lost to Australia in a World Cup warmup and many think they can be beat. While that may be the case the Yanks will come out in this opener and show they are THE team to beat in the World Cup thumping Czech Republic and covering the huge spread.
