2019 NCAA Football betting: Oklahoma odds-on to win Big 12

Oklahoma NCAA Football betting news

Oklahoma NCAA Football betting news

Oklahoma have the best NCAA Football betting lines for the Big 12 title and oddsmakers see Texas as their only threat in the conference. Let’s see how the rest of the outright market is shaping up for the 2019 season.

Oklahoma Big 12 odds

Oklahoma won the Big 12 last season and while they have a new QB he definitely has a lot of hype. Ex-Alabama star Jalen Hurts is the new signal caller and he went 26-2 as a starter at the Crimson Tide. He inherits a Sooners offense that returns RBs Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks, who combined for 2,003 yards and 25 touchdowns last season; second team All Big 12 WR CeeDee Lamb; and first team All Big 12 TE Grant Calcaterra. The defense ranked last in the Big 12 last season and dead last in college football in pass defense, but that unit does return nine starters. Obviously, the Red River Rivalry game with Texas is the big one, but the Sooners also have to face Baylor and Oklahoma State on the road.

Texas Big 12 odds

+300 at Bovada

Texas beat Oklahoma in a thrilling Red River Showdown last season but then lost the rematch in the Big 12 title game. QB Sam Ehlinger returns and is a legitimate Heisman Trophy contender and the Longhorns should have a good ground game with Keaontay Ingram returning and freshman Jordan Whittington. They lost their top WR to the NFL but still have a good set of players on the outside led by 6’6” Calvin Johnson. Texas will have a lot of new starters this season with three newbies on the offensive line and a defense that lost nine regulars. The Longhorns have two tough road conference games against West Virginia and Iowa State.

Iowa State Big 12 odds

+1250 at Bovada

Iowa State finished 8-5 last season and have 11 players that received All Big 12 recognition returning. Brock Purdy remains under center after leading the Cyclones to 7-2 record after a 1-3 start. While they have five players returning on the offensive line they lost two-time All Big 12 RB David Montgomery and star WR Hakeem Butler to the NFL. Iowa State led the Big 12 in scoring defense last season and they return several key players in DE JaQuan Bailey (18.5 career sacks), DT Ray Lima, and SS Greg Eisworth, who was the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year. The Cyclones have a lot of talent, but there are questions over the skill positions on offense and in the secondary. At least they face Texas and Oklahoma at home.

West Virginia Big 12 odds

+1250 at Bovada

The Mountaineers lost their head coach and a few offensive stars, including QB Will Grier. Oklahoma transfer Austin Kendall takes over at QB and the new head coach is Neal Brown, who guided Troy to three straight 10-win seasons. West Virginia have a slew of solid RBs, but the offensive line lost some key players. The WR corps also took a hit, but Alabama transfer WR T.J. Simmons has a ton of upside. The defense looked great in spring practice, but there are several new faces on D and a few transfer players as well. While WVU host Texas four of their last six conference games are on the road, starting with Oklahoma in Norman.

Oklahoma State Big 12 odds

+2000 at Bovada

OSU finished 7-6 in 2018 and head into this season with a QB competition between ex-Hawaii man Dru Brown and star freshman recruit Spencer Sanders. First-team All American Tylan Wallace leads a deep WR corps and the RB situation is solid as well, led by Chuba Hubbard. The Cowboys ranked ninth in the Big 12 in total defense last season and lose four starters up front. OSU face Texas on the road early in the conference season and their finale is at home against local rivals Oklahoma.

Outside chances in 2019 Big 12 betting

TCU (+2000) – The Horned Frogs only finished at 7-6 in 2018. They do not have a set starter at QB and even had to cancel spring scrimmages since so many players were injured.

Baylor (+2000) – The Bears went 7-6 last season after going 1-11 the season before in the wake of the Baylor sexual assault scandal. There are big questions to answer on both sides of the ball in 2019.

Texas Tech (+2350) – Tech finished 5-7 last season and while they have a lot of new talent and high hopes, they still have several holes in key positions and have to face Texas and Oklahoma on the road.
