2019 NFL betting news: Two-horse race in AFC West betting
Leading NFL betting sites see AFC West as a two-team race between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers, who both finished 12-4 last season. Will it play out as expected, or can the Broncos and the Raiders make it interesting?
Kansas City Chiefs odds
-168 at Bovada
The Chiefs have the best NFL betting lines to win the AFC West, but they head into the season with a big question mark. Star WR Tyreek Hill has a domestic violence case looming and if he misses time or is cut it will be a big blow. Still, they have reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes under center and star TE Travis Kelse as well as new recruit Carlos Hyde in the backfield. The offense will be solid, and even better with Hill on the field, but the defense, which ranked second to last in the league last season, is the main concern. They have brought in some new players for that unit and made a big splash signing Tyrann Mathieu to bolster the secondary. The Chiefs play a tough schedule and face the Chargers, as well as the Patriots and Bears, twice in their last six games.
LA Chargers odds
+205 at Bovada
The Chargers were solid last season with 12 wins even though they were hit hard by the injury bug. The team was relatively quiet in the off-season and Phillip Rivers is back for another go at the Super Bowl. RB Melvin Gordon is productive when healthy and the Bolts also have a good WR corps led by Keenan Allen. Star DE Joey Bosa also needs to stay fit as he and Melvin Ingram give LA a solid pass rush that looks even better with the addition of DT Jerry Tillery. Rivers leads a great offense and the defense, which ranked ninth last season, has a lot of young talent and showed that last season.

Denver Broncos odds
+1100 at Bovada
The Broncos head into a second straight season with a new starting QB after trading for Joe Flacco. Is he the answer after a few average seasons in his last few for the Ravens? Phillip Lindsay rushed for over 1,000 yards and the Broncos have a good WR corps, but can Flacco get it done in Mile High City? Denver only ranked 22nd in the league on defense last season and although they have Von Miller up front they still struggled against the pass and the run last season. They did little to address those needs in the off-season and their first three picks in the draft were offensive players. Getting off to a good start may be tough for the Broncos with fixtures against the Bears, Packers and Chargers in three of their first five games.
Oakland Raiders odds
+1950 at Bovada
The Raiders are in their last season in Oakland and it may not be a good one. They did go out and get arguably the best receiver in the game in Antonio Brown and also brought in Tyrell Williams, but there were some head-scratchers too. They had three first-round draft picks and took DE Clelin Ferrell with the fourth pick when he was projected to go late in the first round, while Johnathan Abraham went at pick 27 when he was projected to go in the third round. Josh Jacobs was the 24th pick and the rookie from Alabama may take over in the backfield right away. Oakland also brought in Vontaze Burfict and Richie Incognito, who have major character issues. The offense may be decent if David Carr can recapture some of his old magic, but Jon Gruden still has big concerns for a defense that only ranked 26th in the league last season.
