2019 NFL betting update: Colts lead tight field in AFC South
The Indianapolis Colts made the playoffs last season as the Wild Card and have the best NFL odds to win AFC South, although online bookmakers are expecting a tight race for the divisional title. Let’s see how the teams will stack up for the 2019 NFL season.
Indianapolis Colts odds
+102 at Bovada
The Colts’ run to the playoffs was largely down to the Comeback Player of the Year, Andrew Luck. He was only sacked 17 times and played like the old Luck before his shoulder issues. T.Y. Hilton was his main target with 1,270 yards, but there is a new WR option this year in Devin Funchess. Marlon Mack led the team with over 900 rushing yards and will be the lead back again this year. The defense, which ranked a respectable 11th in the league last season, is bolstered by sack specialist Justin Houston and second-round pick Rock Ya-Sin. Indy have a tough early season schedule with three of their first five games, including their first two, on the road against the Chargers, Titans, and Chiefs.
Houston Texans odds
+260 at Bovada
The Texans won the division last season even though QB Deshaun Watson was sacked a whopping 62 times. He still had a great second year in the league, passing for 4,165 yards and rushing for 551 yards. WR DeAndre Hopkins was huge with over 1,500 receiving yards and Lamar Miller led a solid ground game. Houston upgraded their offensive line with their first- and third-round picks and if Watson is given time he will be dangerous. The defense ranked 12th last season and the Texans need a healthy J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney to win the division. Clowney had the franchise tag placed on him and signing him to a deal has to be a priority for the team. Houston have a lot of talent, but they also have a lot of question marks.

Jacksonville Jaguars odds
+390 at Bovada
The Jaguars finally let Blake Bortles walk and in comes former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, who has saved Philadelphia’s season in the last two years. While Foles has the goods, the team is still waiting on RB Leonard Fournette, who missed a lot of time last season, but has shown he can be the focal point of the offense when healthy. Foles will not have a great WR corps, but a decent one, and he has to be better than Bortles. The Jags ranked fifth in the league on defense last season and they used the seventh pick in the draft to take OLB Josh Allen, who was expected to go higher. If the defense can get back to being the dominant unit it was in the run to the AFC title two seasons ago and if Foles can play like he did in Philly, Jacksonville may surprise some teams this season, but things rarely go their way.
Tennessee Titans odds
+690 at Bovada
The Titans finished at 9-7 but out of the playoffs and have the worst NFL betting lines to win the AFC South this season. Even after a few seasons the jury is still out on QB Marcus Mariota, who was injured some of last season and registered only three 11 TD in 14 games. RB Derrick Henry may be primed for a big season after he led the league in rushing in December and was named Offensive Player of the Month. The WR options are decent at best and the Titans need some players step up and help out Mariota. Joining the team is A.J. Brown, who went in the second round of the draft. The defense for Tennessee ranked eighth in the league last season and did not lose any key players and the unit should be solid again this season. While Tennessee have the worst odds to win AFC South, they will be in the mix if Mariota can stay healthy and Henry plays like he did at the end of last season.
