2019 NFL futures odds: Saints the team to beat in NFC South

Saints NFL betting news

Saints NFL betting news

Drew Brees led the New Orleans Saints to the NFC South title last season and NFL betting sites are forecasting a repeat in 2019. Let’s see how the futures markets are shaping up.

New Orleans Saints odds

-220 at Bovada

The Saints not only have the best odds to win the NFC South, but also the best odds of any NFC team in Super Bowl betting. Drew Brees is back, again, after a solid season where he did not have to pass for a ton of yards with young star RB Alvin Kamara in the backfield. Michael Thomas is a star WR, but the guys after him are a little bit of a question mark. Still, the offense should be fine and the defense ranked 14th last term. While the New Orleans D was one of the best in the league against the run, they were one of the worst against the pass. They have brought in some new players to improve the secondary and if that unit is just decent the Saints will be tough to beat.

Atlanta Falcons odds

+400 at Bovada

The Falcons were a big disappointment last season, going 7-9? Matt Ryan threw for nearly 5,000 yards and has a great WR corps led by stud Julio Jones. With Tevin Coleman gone, Devonta Freeman will shoulder the load in the backfield. The main issue for Atlanta last season was a defense that only ranked 28th in the league. In previous seasons Ryan and the offense would light up the scoreboard to compensate for the defense, but that was not the case last year. Vic Beasley Jr. had 15.5 sacks to lead the NFL in 2016, but he only has 10 in the last two seasons and the team picked up his fifth-year option for over $12 million. The Falcons start out of the gate tough with their first three games against the Vikings, Eagles, and Colts.

Carolina Panthers odds

+750 at Bovada

Like the Falcons, the Panthers (+750) were a disappointment last season and also finished 7-9. Cam Newton had a pretty good season and Christian McCaffery continued to do it all out of the backfield, leading the team in rushing and receiving yards last season. The WR corps is decent but lost Devin Funchess in the off-season. Newton is not a spring chicken any longer and he needs more help from the ground game. The defense ranked in the middle of the pack last season and needs to deliver more QB pressure, as Mario Addison was the only played with more than 3.5 sacks with nine.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers odds

+1350 at Bovada

Oddsmakers are not giving the Buccaneers much of a chance in NFC South title betting after they dropped to 5-11 last season from 9-7 in 2017. Jameis Winston was not very impressive after coming back from suspension with 19 TD and 14 INT passing for nearly 3,000 yards. This may be a make-or-break season for the QB and while he has the weapons – Mike Evans had 1,500 receiving yards last year with two other players with over 800 – he does not have a great ground game. Peyton Barber re-signed after leading the team with 871 rushing yards, but he only averaged 3.7 yards per carry. Gerald McCoy was let go and the defense that ranked 27th in the league last season still has a lot of holes, although the Buccaneers used their first three picks in the draft, including fifth pick Devin White, on defensive players.
