2020 Heisman Trophy outright odds & betting news

Justin Fields Heisman Trophy betting news

The 2019 NCAA Football season is in the books, so now it is time to look forward to the 2020 season and the players that will feature prominently in Heisman Trophy betting.

In the last 20 years, 17 quarterbacks have taken home the Heisman. The last defensive player to win the college football MVP award was Charles Woodson way back in 1997.

The top nine players in this year’s Heisman Trophy odds are all quarterbacks, with Georgia running back Zamir White (+2500) rounding out the top 10.

Let’s check out the players with the best betting odds to win the Heisman in 2020.

Justin Fields (Ohio State)

+250 at Bovada

Justin Field passed for 3,273 yards last season with an amazing touchdown-to-interception ratio of 40:3. He also rushed for 471 yards with 10 touchdowns. The Ohio State quarterback has a solid supporting cast around him and last season led a Buckeyes team that topped the nation in points per game.

Trevor Lawrence (Clemson)

+300 at Bovada

Trevor Lawrence has had a great first two seasons as the quarterback of Clemson, leading the team to the National Championship as a freshman and then a runner-up finish last season. Last season the prototypical signal-caller passed for 3,665 yards with 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Even though 6’6” he can run the ball as well with 553 rushing yards last season, including 107 in the semi-final win over Ohio State.

Mac Jones (Alabama)

+800 at Bovada

Mac Jones took over for Tua Tagovailoa when he got injured and played well, passing for 1,503 yards with 14 touchdowns and three interceptions. With Tagovailoa entering the NFL draft, Jones will have a full season to show what he can do. It helps he has some great receivers and the Crimson Tide have a stacked offensive line.

Bo Nix (Auburn)

+900 at Bovada

Last season as a freshman Bo Nix passed for 2,542 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions. Auburn was led by the run game last season, but, with a year under his belt, the Tigers may lean more on Nix and the passing attack in future. Nix also rushed for 377 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

Jake Fromm (Georgia)

+1000 at Bovada

Fromm put up some solid numbers last season, passing for 2,860 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions. All five of his interceptions came in Georgia’s two losses. He was picked off twice in the national semi-final loss to LSU in the Sugar Bowl and has to avoid mistakes on the big stage in order to win the Heisman.

Spencer Rattler (Oklahoma)

+1000 at Bovada

Spencer Rattler is on the list more from what he may be able to do, as this is his first season as the starting quarterback for Oklahoma. Last season he backed up Jalen Hurts and only passed for 81 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions. However, the dual-threat quarterback takes over this season and is sure to put up some big numbers in the Sooners’ run-and-gun attack.

Kedon Slovis (USC)

+1200 at Bovada

Kedon Slovis took over at quarterback at USC last season and the job is his for 2020. Last season he passed for 3,502 yards with 30 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has to cut down on the turnovers, but the end of 2019 showed he could light it up. In the last three games of the regular season he averaged 451 passing yards and had 12 touchdowns and only one interception.

Sam Ehlinger (Texas)

+1200 at Bovada

Sam Ehlinger is back for his senior season. Last year he passed for 3,663 yards with 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions and also rushed for 663 yards and seven scores. He has played well but has not taken Texas back to the top. If he can change that this season, he will have a great chance to win the Heisman. He will get a shot early to get in the Heisman race when the Longhorns face the champions, LSU, in the second game of the 2020 NCAAF season.
