2020 NCAA Football odds: Alabama and Clemson the teams to beat

The Crimson Tide and the Clemson Tigers top the early betting for this season’s NCAA Division I FBS title.

Alabama college football betting

Oddsmakers have given Alabama and Clemson the best odds in the 2020 College Football National Championship betting after the two met in last season’s title game.

Heisman runner-up Tua Tagovailoa returns under center for Alabama (+125 at Nags.bet), who finished second best last season. Jerry Jeudy leads a great WR corps and after a couple of RBs bolted for the NFL, Najee Harris and Brian Robinson Jr. look to star in the backfield. The defense lost some key players, but the young blue chippers are set to step in. For a change, the schedule favours the Crimson Tide this season and they do not face SEC foe Georgia.

Clemson (+150) won it all in 2019 behind a great campaign from QB Trevor Lawrence. He leads a stacked offense with Tee Higgins leading the WR corps and the Tigers may have the best backfield in the nation led by Travis Etienne, who averaged 8.1 yards per rush last season. The defense lost a lot of players to the pros and the interior defense is a main area of concern for the team. Clemson will be tested early at home, facing a solid Texas A&M team in their second game.

Georgia (+650) have Jake Fromm as the starter at QB and another potential great Bulldogs RB in D’Andre Swift. The team lost their three leading WRs and that may be an issue this season, but they still have talent on the outside. The defense is loaded with freshman talent and they need to produce right away for a unit that has question marks in the secondary. The Bulldogs face Notre Dame early but do not have to face Alabama in SEC play.

Ohio State (+775) lost Nick Bosa and record-setting quarterback Dwayne Haskins and they have a new head coach in Ryan Day. Georgia transfer Justin Fields takes over at QB and the backfield is solid with the RB duo of J.K. Dobbins and Mike Fields. The WR corps has some new faces and while the defense should be solid again, the team had issues against the run last season and will need to address that. The Buckeyes’ last game of the season is on the road against Michigan.

Oklahoma (+1300) will have a third straight season with a transfer QB. Can they make it three straight Heisman winners with ex-Alabama QB Jalen Hurts under center? The RB duo of Trey Sermon and Kennedy Brooks combined for 2,003 yards and 25 TD last season and while second Big 12 WR CeeDee Lamb is back, some of the young guys have to step up. The Sooners offensive line has lost four starters and their pass defense ranked dead last in college football last season, so Hurts may have to light it up.

Michigan (+1700) return with senior QB Shea Patterson and while some key WRs are back, there are four young RBs that will compete for carries this season. Once again, the offensive line should be one of the best in the nation and the defense should be a good one, but they have a tough schedule with Wisconsin and Penn State on the road as well as Notre Dame and Ohio State at home.

Texas (+2400) have QB Sam Ehlinger again, but the offensive line has lost three starters and the defense is missing nine of last season’s regulars. The Longhorns will be tested against LSU in their second game.

LSU (+2500) have a new pass-friendly offense this season, but the run game still should be there with highly touted freshman RB John Emery Jr. While the Tigers have the offense and many players returning on defense, they have a tough schedule that includes road games against Texas and Alabama.

Florida (+2650) finished strong last season and have high hopes this season behind key returning players. Still, the Gators have a lot of unproven talent and have to face LSU on the road and Georgia.

Oregon (+2700) may have one of the best QBs in the nation in Justin Herbert, but can the Ducks get back to national prominence? That question may be answered in their opening game against Auburn.
