2020 NFL Draft betting picks, odds & predictions

Tua Tagovailoa football news

The 2020 NFL Draft is just about here, and with it comes a variety of betting options at online sportsbooks. Due to the coronavirus issue the draft will take place via video conference, without the commissioner hugging players and with no fans in attendance. Still, this year’s draft has a lot of intrigue, especially regarding where Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will land.

2020 NFL Draft order

This is the order for the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft:

  1. Cincinnati Bengals
  2. Washington Redskins
  3. Detroit Lions
  4. New York Giants
  5. Miami Dolphins
  6. Los Angeles Chargers
  7. Carolina Panthers
  8. Arizona Cardinals
  9. Jacksonville Jaguars
  10. Cleveland Browns
  11. New York Jets
  12. Las Vegas Raiders
  13. San Francisco 49ers
  14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  15. Denver Broncos
  16. Atlanta Falcons
  17. Dallas Cowboys
  18. Miami Dolphins
  19. Las Vegas Raiders
  20. Jacksonville Jaguars
  21. Philadelphia Eagles
  22. Minnesota Vikings
  23. New England Patriots
  24. New Orleans Saints
  25. Minnesota Vikings
  26. Miami Dolphins
  27. Seattle Seahawks
  28. Baltimore Ravens
  29. Tennessee Titans
  30. Green Bay Packers
  31. San Francisco 49ers
  32. Kansas City Chiefs

Absent from that list are the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Rams, Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans, all of whom traded away their first-round selections. That means several other teams have multiple picks in the first 32 – most notably this year’s Super Bowl runners-up, the San Francisco 49ers, who grabbed no.13 from the Colts in exchange for defensive tackle DeFrost Buckner.

Who will be the first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft?

It is almost a lock that LSU’s Heisman winning-quarterback, Joe Burrow, will go to the Cincinnati Bengals with the first pick. Bovada has the Ohio native at an unbackable price of -8500 to be the top selection.

The next best in the betting for pick no.1 in the 2020 NFL Draft is defensive end Chase Young (+1600), who is widely regarded as the best prospect in the pool. Tagovailoa (+1800) rounds out the top three, while you can get +3300 odds on the Bengals to take any other player with their first pick.

Will the Redskins take Chase Young with pick no.2?

The Washington Redskins have a tough decision. They drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the first round last year and while it is expected they will draft defensive end Chase Young, it may be hard for them to pass on Tagovailoa.

Bovada believes Young will be taken by the Redskins with the second pick at -3000, with Tagovailoa at +1500. We think Washington will go with Young, but many Skins fans may prefer to see them take a punt on Tua.

Who will be the first QB drafted after Joe Burrow?

Many of the 2020 NFL Draft betting options have to deal with the four quarterbacks expected to go in the first round in Burrow, Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Jordan Love. Burrow is a lock at pick no.1, but there is some wiggle room where the next two in the QB rankings are concerned.

Tagovailoa is at -155 with Bovada to be the second quarterback chosen this year. The Crimson Tide star was injured in the middle of last season, which has hurt his draft stock.

Herbert is at +100 to be the third quarterback taken, with Love at +400. Out of the teams that hold the top six picks, the Bengals, Dolphins, and Chargers all need signal callers. Unless some other sides trade up, we see Burrow going to Cincinnati at no.1, Tagovailoa to Miami at no.5, and Herbert to LA at no.6.

More NFL Draft 2020 betting predictions

Most NFL betting sites are taking bets on which player will be the first selected in any given position – not just the quarterbacks. CeeDee Lamb is the +100 favourite to be the first wide receiver taken, Jedrick Wills (-160) tops the betting for offensive linemen, and D’Andre Swift (-190) leads the market for running backs. While Swift should be the first RB taken, we think Tristan Wirfs (+200) will go ahead of Wills and Jerry Jeudy (+100) will be the first WR taken.

There are also bets available on whether a team will take an offensive or defensive player with its first pick. For example, Detroit is at -800 to choose a defensive player. That bet lines up well with the odds for cornerback Jeff Okudah, who is paying -125 to go at no.3 in the draft order.

You can even get -800 at Bovada for any of Okudah, Tua, Young, Isaiah Simmons, or Derrick Brown to be the third selection overall. On the flip side, bookies are offering +500 for any other player to be taken with that pick. Don’t be sucked in by the bigger payout in this one, as it is a certainty that one of those four players will be chosen with the third pick.
