2022 Winter Olympics Day 9 betting picks – Saturday, February 12

Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

Canada will be looking to secure wins in its two favorite national sports this Saturday as the Men’s hockey team takes on the United States and the Women’s Curling team takes on Sweden. We’ve got plays in those two matches as well as a pick in the Men’s Biathlon 10km Sprint in this Saturday’s Winter Olympics best bets for Day 9.

Women’s Curling: Sweden (-140) vs. Canada (+100)

This should be a great game between two of the top three favorites to win the gold medal in Women’s Curling. It’s a bit odd to see Canada as an underdog here considering they are going off at better odds to win gold this year at +250 to Sweden’s +325. Both teams are off to a 1-1 start in the 2022 Olympic Games as Canada has an 8-5 loss to Japan and a 12-7 win over South Korea and Sweden has an 8-2 loss to Great Britain and an 8-5 win over Japan thus far.

Considering how close of a matchup this appears to be between two elite teams on paper, Canada is worth a wager here based on the favorable underdog odds alone. But it’s also worth noting that 47-year-old veteran skip Jennifer Jones and her squad met Anna Hasselborg and the Swedish team in the 2018 World Women’s Championship and beat them twice, scoring an 8-4 win for Canada in the round robin stage and a 7-6 win in the gold medal game. Expect an exciting game between the last two Curling gold medal teams (Sweden in 2018, Canada in 2014) and look for Canada to edge out the victory.

Men’s Ice Hockey: Canada (-145) vs. USA (+270)

The United States coasted to an easy 8-0 win over China and Canada booked a 5-1 win over Germany in each of the these team’s Group A openers on Thursday. There are plenty of reasons to like Canada in this matchup; Eric Staal leads a Canadian team that has more experience than this very young American team. And although the United States won easily against China, they did allow 29 shots against the worst team in the tournament. That probably doesn’t bode well for this matchup against a more talented Canada squad.

But instead of making a play on the moneyline, we’re going to go with the OVER 5.5 goals in this one. Both of these teams looked sharp on offense in their Olympic openers, and the two games these two teams played in the World Championships last year both produced six goals. Look for at least one of these teams to score four goals and for the other to take care of the rest.

Biathon: Men’s 10km Sprint Gold Medal

Casual Winter Olympics fans may have missed out on the awesome rivalry that 10km Sprint favorite Johannes Boe ( +225 to win gold) out of Norway and France’s Quentin Fillon-Maillet (+250) have had so far in the 2022 Olympics. Boe struck first in the mixed relay, helping his team to win gold as its closer with a 14:43.3 individual time while Fillon-Mallet (14:48.8 time in the relay) and France settled for silver. Three days later, Fillon-Mallet won gold in the 20km individual with a 48:47.4 time while Boe finished 31.1 seconds slower to win the bronze.

So who comes out on top here? Boe is the more accomplished and decorated of the two biathletes, but both are a clear step above everyone else heading into this race and seem to be in very similar form. We’re going to take a stab on Fillon-Mallet here; he looked outstanding in the 20km and pays slightly better in what legitimately looks like a coin flip.
