Liverpool have churned out three wins in their opening three English Premier League fixtures and will look to underline their title credentials with another three points at King Power Stadium.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges started the campaign with a bold announcement of their intentions, dealing West Ham United a resounding 4-0 defeat at Anfield on the opening weekend. After that came a 2-0 win on the road against Crystal Palace, before the Merseyside club sealed another invaluable three points in their most recent outing against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Although three wins in three has Liverpool top of the Premier League standings on goal difference, Klopp will be keen to address what is, in his assessment, an evident decline in form. The German made the admission after his side laboured to get past Brighton – only winning by a solitary goal despite playing at Anfield. The decisive strike came midway through the first half when Mohamed Salah, who had made a fine run into the area, collected the ball from Roberto Firmino before stabbing a left-footed shot into the back of the net.

Salah may have managed to leave his imprint in the encounter with his second goal of the campaign, but the Egypt international is yet to hit the strides that saw him clinch the Golden Boot with a record 32 goals last season. Klopp was, however, quick to alleviate pressure from the forward – who fired several miscued shots in the match – arguing that the 26-year-old had the same goal tally at this point last season.

Leicester City, on the other hand, registered a last-gasp winner through Harry Maguire to win 2-1 away at Southampton last weekend. The hosts opened the scoring in the 52nd minute when Ryan Bertrand let fly from outside the area with a ferocious left-footed strike, only for the Foxes to restore parity four minutes later after Demarai Gray delivered a poacher’s finish.

The pivotal point of the encounter came in 77th minute when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was shown a second yellow for simulation in the opposition’s penalty area. Going a man down eventually proved costly for the Saints, as Maguire stole the winner with an audacious long-range effort in injury time.

The Foxes needed that individual brilliance in the absence of Jamie Vardy, who will continue to serve his suspension this weekend after receiving a straight red against Wolverhampton Wanderers in Matchweek 2.

Dejan Lovren remains a notable miss for Liverpool after the Croatia international returned from the World Cup with a stomach problem, whereas Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster will continue their prolonged spells on the sidelines due to long-term injuries. Liverpool have fielded the same starting 11 in all three matches so far, but Klopp has promised to ring the changes this weekend.

Leicester City have been able to bounce back from their opening-day defeat to Manchester United with two decisive wins against Wolves and Southampton. Although Liverpool have scored seven goals without conceding any thus far in the Premier League, their adventurous goal-scoring escapades seems to be on the decline. The Reds will be eager to maintain top spot heading into the international break, especially with a trip to Wembley on the other side.
