Washington State had won seven in a row before losing to in-state rival Washington in their last game, which cost them a shot in the Pac 12 title game. To say they are all about the pass would be an understatement, as they rank first in the nation in passing yards per game while only ranking 128th out of 129 FBS teams in rushing yards per game.

This bowl game is the first ever meeting between these two programs.

This season Florida is 9-3 SU with an ATS record of 8-4-1`and an O/U record of 7-4-1 and Michigan is 10-2 SU with an ATS record of 6-6 and an O/U record of 7-5.

In their last game of the regular season Iowa State was at home and was not overly impressive in their 27-24 against Drake, who are far from a college football powerhouse. They had fewer overall yards in the game (279-273) and more turnovers (2-1), but they stuffed the run, rushed for 114 yards, and were 8/14 on 3rd down conversions.

Brock Purdy passed for 153 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions, but the Cyclones big gun on offense was running back David Montgomery rushing for 145 yards and two touchdowns and averaged a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. The run game was the weakness of the Iowa State offense this season while their passing offense was pretty good. Purdy is a freshman that put up good numbers, but has to avoid the turnover and in the two games previous to the win over Drake he was picked off three times.

This season Washington State ranked 48th in the nation in pass defense and 16th in run defense.

Washington State lost their last game of the season to Washington 28-15 where they only passed for 152 yards, gave up 268 rushing yards, and had three turnovers. They at least forced three turnovers as well, but the loss giving up 487 total yards cost them a New York Six Bowl game.

Gardner Minshew had a big season passing for nearly 4,500 yards with 36 touchdowns and only nine picks, but in the Washington loss he only passed for 152 yards with no scores and two interceptions. Dezmon Patmon leads a deep WSU receiver squad where eight players have at least 303 receiving yards. James Williams led the team with 552 rushing yards on the season, but, again, the Cougars are all about airing it out.

Iowa State ranks 62nd in the nation in pass defense and they did beat a couple of bowl-bound pass-first teams in Baylor, West Virginia, and Oklahoma State in Big 12 play alone.

Yeah, something has got to give. The Cougars are legit and were over-looked this season, but will not be in this game, as they will light up Iowa State winning big and covering the spread.
