Arsenal, Chelsea secure thrilling wins in EPL Matchday 6

EPL News

Arsenal registered a thrilling 4-2 win over Leicester City in the English Premier League on Saturday afternoon at the Emirates Stadium.

The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute through Gabriel Martinelli, before Belgian forward Leandro Trossard doubled their lead right before the break.

Full-back James Justin pulled one back for the Foxes through a deflected header after the restart, before leveling things with a sensational volley midway through the second half.

Although Leicester defended resolutely for most of the second half, Mikel Arteta’s men eventually prevailed, winning 4-2 through injury-time goals by Trossard and German midfielder Kai Havertz.

Victory took Arsenal to third with 14 points, level with champions Manchester City — who settled for a 1-1 draw away to Newcastle United in an early kick-off.

Meanwhile, defeat leaves Leicester 16th on the table with three points from six games.

Speaking after the soccer match, Arteta praised his team’s reaction after giving away a two-goal lead.

“I’m especially happy with the way the team reacted when it got very difficult, with a really unexpected two goals conceded which put the game at stake,” said the Arsenal boss.

“We showed unbelievable emotional control, a lot of belief and clarity into what we are continuously doing and a lot of courage at the end to find a way to win it.”

He also praised the home supporters for rallying them on.

“I think our supporters, the crowd, were exceptional at that, creating that atmosphere of belief, energy and not an average fear of nerve or insecurity. So thank you so much because they helped the team a lot to get the points.”

The Gunners are one point behind league leaders Liverpool, who leapfrogged City following Saturday’s 2-1 win away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal will be in Champions League action on Tuesday night, with online betting sites paying -133.33 for the Gunners to defeat Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain (+334) at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Leicester City will play host to Bournemouth next Saturday in the EPL, with top sports betting sites backing the visitors (+123) to beat Leicester (+215).

Chelsea ends Brighton’s unbeaten run in the EPL

Elsewhere, Chelsea came from behind to end Brighton’s unbeaten run with a 4-2 victory on Saturday at Stamford Bridge — with all six goals scored in the first half.

England midfielder Cole Palmer stole the headlines in the fiery encounter as he scored all four goals for Chelsea, with Georginio Rutter and Carlos Noom Quomah Baleba netting the consolation for the visitors.

Palmer, who secured the match ball, also made EPL history by becoming the first player to score four times in the first 45 minutes.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca hailed Palmer as the “best in the Premier League” for his heroics.

“He scored four but he also could have scored two or three more,” Maresca said.

“It’s important he stays hungry, ambitious and I know him from many years ago with the U23s at City and with the first team.

“What he is today as a boy is exactly what he was three or four years ago. Goals, assists, best player of the Premier League – this doesn’t change the way he is.”

A third consecutive league win propelled Chelsea to fourth on the table with 13 points, while defeat condemned Brighton to eighth with nine points.

Chelsea welcome Belgian side K.A.A. Gent on Thursday in the UEFA Conference League, and leading sportsbook Bovada are paying -312.5 for the Blues to defeat Gent (+604).

Meanwhile, Brighton will host Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday in the Premier League, with the Spurs at paying +147 to beat the Seagulls (+163).
