Tyson Fury refuses to accept loss to Oleksandr Usyk
Tyson Fury is refusing to accept the outcome of his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk after the Ukrainian handed him the second loss of his career early on Sunday morning in Riyadh.
The British boxer was a +110 underdog at Bovada heading into the pair’s second clash this year, and in a repeat of their May meeting, he again lost on the judges’ cards.
“I thought I won that fight,” Fury said in the post-fight press conference.
“I thought I won both fights but I’m going home with two losses on my record.
“There’s not much I can do about it.
“I can just fight my heart out.
“I will believe until the day I die that I won that fight.”
While their earlier fight was decided by split decision, Usyk won Sunday morning’s bout by unanimous decision, scored 116-112 by all three judges.
Live betting odds briefly turned in Fury’s favour midway through the fight, however, as he started strongly and won three of the first five rounds.
“I was aggressive, on the front foot all night, landing to the body and head,” he said.
“Frank Warren (his promoter) had me three or four rounds up.
“A lot of people had me at least two rounds up.
“But I’m not going to cry over spilled milk. I can’t change the decision.
“When you don’t get the knockout this is what happens.
“You can’t guarantee a win.”
As he did in their first fight, Usyk weathered the early Fury storm and fought his way back into the contest, this time dominating the second half of the clash.
Boxing betting sites had the undisputed heavyweight champion winning by decision as the most popular method of victory, returning +200.
Usyk was more gracious in his post-fight comments, lauding Fury’s effort over their two meetings in 2024.
“He is a great fighter,” he said.
“He is a great opponent.
“He gave an unbelievable 24 rounds for my career.
“Thank you very much.”
