Rejuvenated, revitalized and revivified, Manchester United will take their five match winning run to Wembley for a Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.
The high profile, Sunday afternoon encounter could act as an audition for Ole Gunnar Solskjær as much as it will for Mauricio Pochettino, as the two opposing managers are both licking their lips at the prospect of permanently taking over the reins of power at Old Trafford next season.
Although Ole already has a head start, his appointment is on a holding capacity until the end of the season. The Norwegian has nonetheless sufficed his new role at the club that he so dearly loves, as he has guided Manchester United to five wins in five across all competitions, becoming the first manager to register a one hundred percent record in his first five games at the club.
United’s most recent outing saw them cruise past Championship side Reading with a 2-0 win in the Third Round of the FA Cup last weekend. The new Man Untied gaffer took advantage of his extensively talented side, striking a perfect balance between youth, experience and bit part members of the squad.
Despite lacking the sharpness of touch due to the squad rotation, one that saw United’s chances come few and far between during the opening twenty minutes, Juan Mata put the hosts in front midway through the first half will a well struck penalty.
English summer signing Fred appeared to have found the breakthrough but the goal was ruled for offside, with referee Stuart Attwell opting instead to award the penalty for a foul committed on Mata in the build up to the cancelled goal—this coming after the centre referee had consulted the VAR.
VAR has been adopted in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, but debates continue to be held over the principal agreement to introduce it to the Premier League next season, as a number of top flight clubs have explicitly stated their unwillingness to reduce the number of foreign players should any Brexit deal go through.
Romelu Lukaku added United’s second deep into the additional time of the first half, with the scoreboard staying that way till the end of the match.
Unlike the emotional maelstrom that characterized watching Jose Mourinho’s United during his final days at the club, the Red devils seem to have taken a semblance of shape under Solskjær, with his free flowing football mantra and adventurous tactical approach earning widespread admiration from a fan base that already adores him from his playing days.
Tottenham Hotspurs did well to increase their chances of booking a place in the Carabao Cup final when they beat Chelsea 1-0 during the first leg of the semifinal over the course of the week. The only goal of the encounter was a 26th minute penalty converted by Harry Kane after VAR consultation by referee Michael Oliver proved that Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga had fouled the England skipper inside the box.
Although either of the teams can still make it to the final with an impressive performance in the second leg of the semis, these is no prize for guessing who their opponents in the final will be, as Manchester City trounced League One side Burton Albion 9-0 with a leg to spare.

Marcus Rashford, much like every other Manchester United player, looks a man reborn. The appointment of Ole Gunner has helped Rashford, as the forward is back to his blistering best; netting three goals in his last five games.
This is in stark contrast to the four goals he had scored in all competitions during the first four months of the season under Jose Mourinho.
It’s quite hard predicting who will score for United at the moment, being that the recent flurry of goals has been shared by the entire attacking half of the side—the likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all finding the back of the net in recent weeks.
One of the most frustrated players under the previous manager, Rashford could very well take full advantage of his newly reanimated love of football with a goal in Wembley.
Spurs vs. United betting predictions
Spurs are currently third on the log with 48 points, six points behind leaders Liverpool and ten points ahead of United in sixth.
The Red devils are chasing for a record sixth consecutive win on the managerial front, and Ole’s Red and White could very well nick it on Sunday.
