Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira are likely to meet again after their light heavyweight title fight at UFC 313, according to UFC CEO Dana White.
Ankalaev claimed the championship with a hard-fought unanimous decision victory in Las Vegas on Saturday, overcoming slight underdog status across UFC betting markets to dethrone Pereira.
White admitted the fight didn’t unfold as he had anticipated but suggested an immediate rematch could be on the horizon.

“Probably an immediate rematch [will happen],” White said after the event. “It was not what I expected.
“I expected a lot more shooting, I expected a lot more exchanges.
“I thought Ankalaev won the fight. I wasn’t shocked when I heard the decision.
“There’s no doubt that everybody knew that Ankalaev was going to be a tough fight for him. Everybody knew that this was probably going to be the biggest challenge of his career.”

Pereira, who was listed at -125 with the top betting sites to win, has already voiced his eagerness for a rematch and acknowledged that adjustments will be needed before their next encounter.
“Going to make some adjustments for the rematch,” Pereira said on Sunday.
“I knew it would be a war. Every fight of mine is a war.
“He put some pressure in the second round. I felt some of his strikes, but putting me up against the cage, he didn’t really do anything.
“We followed our strategy. We know that he puts people against the fence, and he plays that game.
“I’ll be back much better, you can count on it. Never give up on your dreams.”
