Indian Wells: Andreeva comes from behind to stun Sabalenka

Mirra Andreeva staged an impressive comeback to knock off the world No.1 in California.

Mirra Andreeva celebrates her win in the 2025 Indian Wells Open women's final

Mirra Andreeva came from behind to beat Aryna Sabalenka and win the Indian Wells Open on Sunday in California, prevailing over the top seed for her second-straight WTA 1000 title.

In doing so, Andreeva becomes just the second-youngest player in history to beat the two top-ranked players in the world at the same event, having knocked out Iga Swiatek in the semi-finals.

She also extends her win streak to 12 matches in a row with the 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory and improves to No.6 in the world in the live rankings.

The 17-year-old was a +145 underdog on tennis betting sites ahead of the Indian Wells final, courtesy of her poor head-to-head against Sabalenka.

In five meetings, Andreeva had failed to win more than five games against Sabalenka on four occasions, including their two clashes in 2025.

It seemed that the trend would continue when the favourite took out the opening set in comfortable fashion, with Andreeva failing to capitalise on her opportunities.

Just when live betting odds shortened even more in Sabalenka’s favour, Andreeva switched her approach, almost tripling her winner count in the second set.

The Russian grabbed the momentum and ran with it, closing out the match for her second straight WTA 1000 title.

“After the first set it was tough to come back really, but I tried my best,” Andreeva said afterwards.

“Now I can really look back to that moment.

“After the first set, I just realised, that what I do now, it doesn’t work, so I have to change something.

“In the second set, I tried to play a little bit more aggressive.

“I didn’t try to overhit her, because I don’t think anyone can overhit Aryna, because she’s super-powerful player.

“I tried to really create something to make her uncomfortable, and point-by-point, game-by-game, I managed to do that.

“Now I’m super happy and super proud of myself.”

Top bookie Nags.bet has responded quickly to Andreeva’s performance, bringing her into +700 to win the French Open in May.

Swiatek (-175.44) and Sabalenka (+400) still head the market to win the title in Paris.
