Round 11 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship arrives at the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix, with Lando Norris putting on a masterclass to take pole position. Norris’ qualifying lap was the largest pole-to-P2 margin since 2023, finishing over half a second clear of the field. Charles Leclerc will start from P2, while Oscar Piastri slots into P3 on the grid. Lights out is scheduled for 3pm local time in Spielberg.
Lando Norris delivered one of the most dominant laps of recent memory on Saturday, stopping the clocks almost five-tenths clear of Leclerc to secure pole in Austria.
On a tight and flowing circuit like the Red Bull Ring, that kind of margin is practically unheard of and underlines McLaren’s step forward this year.
Norris carried an upgraded package that Piastri couldn’t access due to limited parts, and it clearly made a difference this time out, giving Norris an edge over his teammate.
Charles Leclerc will start second for Ferrari, with the Scuderia showing consistent one-lap speed but unable to match Norris’ raw pace in Q3. Leclerc will need to be sharp off the line and look for an early move if he wants to challenge for victory in Austria.
Oscar Piastri, the championship leader, starts from P3 after another solid qualifying effort. The McLaren driver is well positioned to pounce. While he might not quite have the pace to challenge Norris outright, securing a strong P2 would help maintain a healthy buffer over his teammate in the championship battle.
Lando Norris has firmed into a clear favourite with top sportsbooks for the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, with Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc the closest in the market while Max Verstappen drifts to double figures.
