Serie A returns this weekend with one of the tightest seasons in recent memory expected for Italy’s premier soccer competition.
Napoli enter as defending champions, but multiple heavyweights have new managers, which should compress the title and top-four races. Inter have handed the reins to Cristian Chivu, Juventus continue with Igor Tudor, and Atalanta begin a new cycle under Ivan Jurić — three storylines that shape where the smart money sits.
Last season ended with Napoli lifting a fourth Scudetto, sealed by a 2–0 win over Cagliari on May 23, 2025. Inter finished a point back, with Atalanta third and Juventus fourth. Mateo Retegui claimed capocannoniere (top goalscorer) with 25 goals, while Monza, Venezia and Empoli were relegated. It was a year of streaks: Atalanta rattled off 11 straight wins, and Juventus went 21 unbeaten before clinging to the final Champions League berth.
This season’s race pits heavyweight projects against each other, according to top soccer betting sites futures markets. At the other end, promoted Sassuolo, Pisa and Cremonese face a steep climb, and Lecce, Parma, Cagliari and Verona again profile as relegation risks unless they bank early points.

Inter offer the best blend of continuity and upside at the price. Chivu is not arriving to rip up a winning model; he inherits a squad used to controlling matches through territory, box entries, and set-piece threat, and his remit is refinement rather than revolution. Inter were right in the title fight last spring and are projected to threaten again. With a solid spine, proven chance creation, and enough depth to weather winter, there is no reason they cannot be crowned Serie A champions.
Atalanta’s game is built on energy, attacking wing-backs, and sharp set pieces. Ivan Jurić keeps that identity but adds a tidier defensive shape. They finished top three last season and look Champions League-ready again. With the Zingonia academy and smart recruitment, depth isn’t a worry, and they usually travel well — key for picking up points against the bottom half. That stability could give Atalanta an edge over the likes of Juve, Milan and Roma, and at +275 for a top-four finish, sports betting sites still underrate the Bergamo club.
Jonathan David arrives in Turin in his prime and fits Tudor’s direct, vertical football. Across five Ligue 1 seasons with Lille he posted 13, 15, 24, 19 and 16 league goals, finishing second in the 2023/24 scoring race and third in 2022/23. Since 2020/21, only Kylian Mbappé has scored more Ligue 1 goals than David, and he left as Lille’s top scorer of the 21st century with 109 goals in 231 matches across all competitions. There is a question as to whether he will take on penalty duties at Juve, but if the service is consistent and he does have a few chances from the spot, 20–23 goals will keep him live for capocannoniere at +700.
