Formula 1 heads to the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza for the 2025 Italian Grand Prix this weekend as McLaren look to solidify their dominance of the F1 World Championship.
This high-speed classic runs from September 5–7, with practice sessions starting at 1:30pm CEST on Friday, qualifying at 4pm on Saturday, and the race scheduled for 3pm on Sunday.
Nicknamed the ‘Temple of Speed’, Monza is F1’s fastest circuit and a true power track that rewards top-end speed, bravery under braking, and clean exits from slow chicanes. It also marks Ferrari’s home race, with the Tifosi turning out in full voice to support Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Championship leader Oscar Piastri arrives in Italy off the back of a flawless win at Zandvoort, extending his lead over McLaren teammate Lando Norris to 33 points after the Brit suffered an oil leak that forced him out of contention. Piastri now looks to carry that momentum into Monza and strengthen his advantage in the drivers’ standings.
Max Verstappen, George Russell, and Leclerc remain in the hunt, while the likes of Alex Albon, Isack Hadjar, and Liam Lawson continue to produce eye-catching results.
McLaren’s Piastri and Norris head into Monza as favourites with leading sportsbooks following another strong showing at Zandvoort, while Verstappen and Leclerc round out the leading contenders.

Piastri was unlucky not to win at Monza in 2024 after a controversial team-strategy call cost him the lead late in the race. Fast forward to 2025, and the Aussie is now the clear championship leader — and arguably the most dominant driver on high-speed circuits like this. With McLaren’s top-end pace and Piastri’s form, redemption in Italy feels inevitable.
Albon has quietly emerged as one of the midfield stars this season, and Monza is exactly the type of circuit where the Williams can shine. With low drag, great straight-line speed, and strong tyre management, Albon could capitalize on chaos up front and deliver a career-best podium result.
Lawson has been rock-solid in recent races and continues to get the most out of his VCARB machine. Monza’s long straights and braking zones suit his aggressive driving style, and if he avoids trouble early, a top-six finish is well within reach.
