Iowa casinos launch regulated sports betting

This week Iowa is set to launch legal sports betting in the state. Sports betting will be available on Thursday, August 15 and Iowa will become the 11th state where sports betting will be legal.

In May of this year, sports betting legislation bill was signed into law after the state Senate voted 31-18 in favour.

Nearly all casinos in the Hawkeye State will have sports betting operations on their properties from Thursday onwards. There are 19 casinos in Iowa that are licensed and 18 have already started the process to launch sportsbooks.

In July, William Hill confirmed the launch of land-based sportsbooks at two of the Eldorado Resorts casinos in Iowa. Not only would they have the land-based book, but also a mobile sports betting application for the casinos of Eldorado Resorts’ Isle Casino Hotel Bettendorf and Isle Casino Hotel Waterloo.

It was also confirmed that Penn National Gaming would launch a sportsbook at their Iowa casino of Ameristar Casino.

Timothy Wilmott, who is the CEO of Penn National Gaming stated, “Iowa is poised to become the first midwestern state to offer sports wagering since the federal ban was repealed last year. We appreciate the diligence of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission that will allow us to begin offering this great new amenity at Ameristar Casino Council Bluffs prior to the kickoff of football season.”

There are three casinos in the state of Iowa that will have sportsbooks available on an opening day, according to reports, and others are set to launch them before September 5th, which is the date for the opening game for the NFL season.
