Liverpool vs Everton EPL betting tips

Liverpool will hope to maintain their impressive unbeaten run in the English Premier League when they play host to arch-rivals Everton in the 285th edition of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.

The Reds survived a few late scares to clinch a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, taking their season tally to 40 points. The league leaders are eight points clear of both Leicester City and Manchester City, who thumped Burnley 4-1 on Tuesday night.

Having lost the Premier League title by a single point last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side seem to have drawn lessons from their close-but-no-cigar campaign. They have won 13 out of 14 Premier League matches this season, only dropping points in their 1-1 draw away at Manchester United.

One result that cost Liverpool in last term’s title race was a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park in March. Wednesday’s match offers a chance to inflict retribution, especially with Everton in such a sorry state.

The Toffees sustained their eighth defeat of the season last weekend, and it was a cruel one. Kelechi Iheanacho was initially flagged offside when he found the net in the 94th minute, but VAR decided otherwise as Leicester City snatched a 2-1 win after trailing for much of the game.

The heart-breaking result leaves Everton a mere two points above the drop zone. Coach Marco Silva has been walking a tightrope without a safety net ever since the season began, and it doesn’t help that his side’s next four EPL matches are against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

Liverpool team news

Alisson Becker will miss Everton’s visit as he serves the first of a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area in the win over Brighton. That means a return to the starting XI for Adrian, who had several nervy moments in his cameo against the Seagulls.

Joel Matip and Nathaniel Clyne continue with their lengthy spells on the sidelines due to knee injuries, while Fabinho is out with an ankle problem and is not expected to return before Christmas.

Everton team news

Seamus Coleman has been ruled out with a rib injury, while Fabian Delph has a very low chance of passing a late fitness test after suffering a hamstring strain. Midfielders Jean-Philippe Gbamin (quad) and Andre Gomes (ankle) are also out of action.

On a brighter note, Theo Walcott is in line to return after a spell out with illness.

Sadio Mane goalscorer odds and tips

• Mane anytime goalscorer – +320 at Bovada
• Mane to score/Liverpool to win – +105

Liverpool’s attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino has scored 23 goals so far in all competitions, with nearly half of those goals contributed by Mane. The 27-year-old striker has found the back of the net 10 times for Liverpool and sits atop of the club’s goalscoring charts, one ahead of Salah.

Although Mane, Salah and Firmino have not scored for Liverpool in their last two games in all competitions, the Senegalese international has two goals in his last four games and looks the most likely to break open the Everton defence.

Liverpool vs Everton betting predictions

The two Merseyside clubs may be geographically separated by nothing more than a mile of grass, yet their respective form is worlds apart. Liverpool have led the league since the second week of the season, whereas Everton are struggling to keep their heads above the relegation waters. With 26 points between them and the Toffees yet to taste victory at Anfield in the 21st century, this is the home side’s game to lose.

Prediction: Liverpool to win first half/draw second half – +400 at Bovada
