Titans versus Patriots Wild Card NFL Playoffs Betting Preview

The Tennessee Titans head to New England to take on a Patriots’ team that may be near the end of their dynasty. Or are they? The Pats were big home favorites in their season finale at home facing a Dolphins team that came into the game with four wins but lost 27-24, which cost them a first round playoff bye.

The Titans had lost two in a row before beating the Houston Texans 35-14 to secure the final AFC Wild Card. However, Tennessee faced a Texans’ team that rested several key players since their playoff seed was already set. Tennessee gave up 62 points in losing two in a row before holding the shorthanded Texans to 14 in their season finale.

Can Tom Brady and company get back to the Super Bowl without a first round bye and with them not having home field advantage in the playoffs? These teams did not face each other this season and in the last six games between them the Patriots have covered the spread five times.

In their 35-14 win over the Texans in their last game the Titans outgained them 467 yards to 301 yards and they rushed for 245 yards. Derrick Henry led the league in rushing yards on the season and blew up for 211 yards and three touchdowns in the season finale against Houston. He faces a solid New England run defense that ranks sixth in the NFL and held Miami to 63 rushing yards in the last game.

The Patriots gave up 326 passing yards to Miami in the last game and if Henry is contained, Ryan Tannehill will have to do it all. He had a resurgent season in his first one with the Titans and he has seven touchdowns and only one pick in his last three games. New England has the league’s second-ranked pass defense led by star CB Stephen Gilmore but that pass defense was torched in the shocking loss to Miami in their season finale at home.

The Pats allowed the Dolphins to pass for a TD with 24 seconds left leaving them with a shocking loss. Tom Brady passed for 221 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and Sony Michel rushed for 74 yards averaging a respectable 4.1 yards per carry. The New England offense struggled all season but now is playoff time and it will be interesting to see if Brady can recapture some old magic. The Patriots have covered the spread in seven of their last nine playoff games.

The Titans rank 12th in the league defending the run but only rank 24th defending the pass. This season the Patriots are 6-2 at home and the Titans are 5-3 on the road.

Tennessee Titans vs New England Patriots Betting Prediction and Pick

The Patriots and Brady struggled on offense on the season and they lost to the Dolphins, at home no less, in the season finale. Still, until Brady totally falls off a cliff in production and the Pats’ defense regresses they have to be a Super Bowl contender. While maybe not the favorite to win it all, the Patriots are favored in this game with good reason and at home they will get the win and cover the spread, as the dynasty will stay alive for, at least, another week.
