Liverpool vs Manchester United EPL betting preview
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League when Liverpool plays host to Manchester United this weekend in one of the most eagerly awaited fixtures of the EPL football betting calendar year. Although their priorities run parallel this season, with the Reds in the front run for their first ever Premier League crown while the Red Devils seek to desperately attain Champions League relevance.
Tempers often simmer up and boil over whenever these two sides meet and this weekend’s encounter won’t be any different. Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last weekend best exemplifies how imperious the Merseyside club has been this season, winning all but one of their 21 matches in the EPL thus far: the only blemish in the run being a 1-1 draw with Manchester United registered in October. With such an impressive run of form, it’s easy to see why Jurgen Klopp’s side leads the title charge with an imposing 61 points—14 points ahead of defending champions Manchester City in second. Having already secured two trophies this season in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, Liverpool look on fine course to have a memorable campaign given their potential to secure more silverware as the season progresses.
Manchester United’s season on the other hand has been likened to the life of Robin Hood, where the Red devils snatch maximum points from a number of top EPL sides, only for them to drop vital points against the lesser teams in the league. With three wins from their last five EPL games, including a recent 4-0 thumping of Norwich City, Ole Gunner Solskjaer’s side sits sixth on the table on 34 points—five points behind Chelsea in fourth and a massive 27 points adrift Liverpool who have a game in hand.
Liverpool certainly has the capacity to go the entire length of the season unbeaten, but the fact that that United is the only side to have taken points from them this season will make the league leaders wary ahead of the rekindling of this old and fierce rivalry this weekend.
Liverpool team news
Jurgen Klopp still has a number of players out of action. Having been sidelined for the last month due to a thigh problem, defender Dejan Lovren looks set to miss United’s visit while midfielder Naby Keita, whose time in Liverpool has been marred by injury, looks set to miss the match with a groin injury. Nathaniel Clyne remains sidelined on a long term basis with a knee injury, while Joel Matip and Fabinho could be up for selecting this weekend, although it unlikely that Klopp will risk the duo. James Milner has however been ruled out with a thigh injury suffered during Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Everton in the FA Cup.
Manchester United team news
Ole Gunner Solskjaer too has his fair share of injury concerns most notably that of Marcus Rashford who was forced off with a back injury soon after coming on during United’s midweek 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup. Marcos Rojo and Scott McTominay are also sidelined from the match with muscle and knee injury respectively, with Paul Pogba also ruled out of the match having undergone ankle surgery last month. Axel Tuanzebe is however close to making full recovery from a hamstring injury, with Eric Bailly also closing in on a return from a long-term knee injury. Luke Shaw on the other hand is a major doubt having suffered a tight hamstring ahead of Saturday’s win over Norwich City.
Mohamed Salah Odds & EPL Betting Specials
- Salah to score at Anytime – +110 at William Hill
- Salah to score Anytime / Liverpool to win – +120 at William Hill
Mohamed Slah is currently Liverpool’s leading goal scorer with 14 goals in all competitions. The EPL golden boot winner last season, alongside teammate Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has played a part in 21 goals for Liverpool across the board thus far this season. Although Salah has hit a slight deep in form, the 27-year old did score against Sheffield United recently and remains one of the most potent attacking figures for the Reds.
Liverpool vs Manchester United EPL Betting Match Prediction &T ips
Manchester United could have beaten Liverpool last October were it not for a late equalizer by Adam Lallana.
However, given United’s uncertainty over the fitness of top scorer Marcus Rashford who has been in stellar form recently, their trip down the M62 unfortunately looks destined to end in defeat against a near-perfect Liverpool side.
