The coronavirus crisis has had a huge impact on the sporting world. Many of the top football leagues are on hiatus, as are the major professional and collegiate competitions in the United States, while the suspension of horse racing in the United Kingdom means the Grand National might not be run this year.
With no EPL, La Liga, NBA, NHL, or March Madness, online bookmakers are taking a bit hit. But while you might to be able to bet on your favourite sports leagues, there is still plenty of action available if you dig a little deeper.
Please note that although the information in this article is correct at the time of writing, the situation is subject to change at any moment.
Chess
The 2020 Candidates Tournament kicked off on March 17 in Yekaterinburg, Russia, and will conclude on April 4. The winner of the eight-player event will take on Magnus Carlsen in the 2020 World Chess Championship.
Esports
The League of Legends Pro League (LPL) is back in action, while the LoL European Championship and LoL Championship Series are slated to return this week. Esports betting sites are also running markets for the CS:GO ESL Pro League, Dota 2, StarCraft II and more.
Football
Most of Europe’s premier football divisions are suspended, but you can still bet on matches from the Swedish Allsvenskan and Turkish Super Lig. The Australian A-League is ongoing at the time of writing, as are several domestic competitions in Africa, the Americas and Southeast Asia.
Greyhound racing
Although a lot of upcoming greyhound meets are schedule to be run behind closed doors, you can still have a flutter on most of them. Online bookies have markets up for dog racing in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Horse racing
The UK racing industry is on hiatus until the end of April and Irish meets have gone behind closed doors. Australian horse races are pressing ahead despite strict measures in Victoria and New South Wales, while there are also runs to bet on in Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa and the USA.
Politics
The US presidential primaries are in full swing, with Joe Biden the hot favourite to beat out Bernie Sanders and Tulsi Gabbard for the Democratic nomination. Bookies also have futures markets for upcoming elections in Australia and the UK.
Other novelties
While the sports world is shutting down, the entertainment industry is still going strong. Online bookmakers have markets for ongoing reality series such as Dancing With The Stars, Married At First Sight and Survivor, while there are futures available on dozens more shows, events and awards.
