UFC Fight Night 184 betting preview

After an exciting three weeks on UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, this Saturday for UFC Fight Night 184. The main card leading up to the headline fight between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov has plenty of interesting bouts, including some young fighters looking to improve their stock with some big wins.

Bantamweight: Cory Sandhagen (-402) vs Frankie Edgar (+332)

Cory Sandhagen (13-2-0) bounced back from his stunning first-round loss to Aljamain Sterling at UFC 250 with an impressive knockout win over Marlon Moraes at UFC Fight Night 179 in October. Sandhagen is now 8-1 over his last nine fights, including a 6-1 record in the UFC.

Frankie Edgar (24-8-1) made his bantamweight debut in August and pulled off a thrilling split-decision win over Pedro Munhoz. The 39-year-old had lost three of his previous four fights and appeared to be on his way out of the UFC, but now he suddenly has a shot to announce himself as a legitimate contender in the bantamweight division with an upset win over Sandhagen. Edgar’s power and experience perhaps make him a bigger threat than the latest UFC betting odds would indicate, but Sandhagen is just too good to go against in this spot.

Flyweight: Alexandre Pantoja (-132) vs Manel Kape (+112)

This should be a very intriguing bout between Alexandre Pantoja (22-5-0) and Manel Kape (15-4-0). Pantoja is a UFC veteran with a 6-3 record with the promotion under his belt, although he has lost two of his last three fights. Kape is on a three-fight winning streak with three straight TKO wins in Rizin FF and is now set to make his UFC debut in this spot. Pantoja’s submission skills and Kape’s power should make this a fun clash of styles, but in the end we like Kape to find the win in a successful debut.

Featherweight: Cody Stamann (-500) vs Askar Askar (+385)

Cody Stamann (19-3-1) will be looking to bounce back from a loss in his last fight to Jimmie Rivera when he squares off against UFC debutant Askar Askar (11-1-0). Neither of these fighters has much power, so this should be a technical fight that goes all three rounds. This favors Stamann, who is more than capable of outwrestling a far more inexperienced foe.

Lightweight: Carlos Diego Ferreira (-115) vs Beneil Dariush (-105)

Rounding out the main card is a bout that should be a competitive one between Carlos Diego Ferreira (17-2-0) and Beneil Dariush (19-4-1). Ferreira has won six straight fights, including a victory over Anthony Pettis in his last fight back in January 2020. Dariush is on a five-fight winning streak with four straight finishes (two submissions and two knockouts). These two fought back in 2014 and Dariush came out on top; look for Ferreira to get the win this time around to potentially set the stage for a third fight down the road.
