THERE’S no Champions League football or FA Cup trophy ambitions for Arsenal – a true sign of just how much times have changed for Arsene Wenger’s men.

If Arsenal isn’t getting knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup by a struggling Championship side, then it’s getting walloped in the League by the likes of Bournemouth and Swansea.

It’s the jarring anomalies that have blighted Arsenal’s progress over the course of the season; anomalies that have more often than not rescinded the Gunners title credibility with little hope of ever returning back to the glory days gone by.

From the sounds of it, Arsenal seems like a club on a downward spiral, which would be true had it been a fortnight ago.

Now, the Gunners look like a rejuvenated side on a mission ahead of their visit to Wembley in what would be the second North London derby of the season.

The revitalization has little to with an overnight change of heart, but plenty to do with the impeccable business conducted in the recently-concluded winter transfer window.

Arsene Wenger has received plaudits for the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang; the latter signing for £56m, while the former was part of a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez drafted to Manchester United.

If the transfer business wasn’t significant at the time, then it became glaringly so when Mkhitayran provided a hat-trick of assists as his former Borussia Dortmund marked his debut with a goal during the emphatic 5-1 rout over Everton.

While Arsenal were scoring at will against the Toffees, Tottenham had to come from behind on two occasions to salvage a hard fought, yet deserving draw away to Liverpool.

Despite the draw, Spurs are fifth on the table, albeit a gleeful four points above Arsenal. With Chelsea stuttering and seemingly on a self-destructive mission to finish outside the top four, both sides simply have to put their best foot forward in the derby.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to have a full strength side with Toby Alderweireld being the only injury concern, while Arsene Wenger may be without Petr Cech and Nacho Monreal, who were both forced out with injuries against Everton.

The England international leads the goal scoring charts with 22 goals and is tantalizingly poised to score in the derby having found the back of the net six times in his last six outings against Arsenal.

Tottenham have only sustained a single defeat in the last seven North London derbies and are on an unbeaten run of ten games in all competitions; Key among which saw them thrash United 2-0 at Wembley.

The Gunners on the other hand have received a shot in the arm with the two signings and will without question take the fight to Spurs.
