A BATTLE of the big serves looms in the third round of the Championships in 2015 with the brazen young Australian Nick Krygios taking on the Canadian world number eight Milos Raonic.

Raonic put up the third fastest serve in Wimbledon history in his four set battle with Tommy Haas yesterday.

The Canadian fired down an ultra-impressive 29 aces on his way to victory.

Kyrgios was ruthless in his match up with Juan Monaco, hitting 39 winners and faced no break points on his way to a comfortable straight sets triumph.

Krygios will be out for revenge against the man that ended his dream run in London last year at the quarter final stage.

A lack of conditioning, as well as inexperience counted against the 26th seed in his brilliant 2014 run which saw him defeat Rafael Nadal.

The 20-year-old believes a strong off-season has given him the best opportunity to turn the tables on the seventh seed.

“That’s where I feel as I’ve drawn a lot of confidence” Kyrgios said in regards to an increased level of fitness.

“Today I didn’t feel my body aching or anything at all, in my legs. That’s a lot of confidence.”

This confidence will serve him well after he fell short against the hard-hitting Raonic last year.

“Last year against Raonic, I gave absolutely everything I could.”

”I lost 7‑6 in the fourth set. If it was going to a fifth, I feel I could have completely emptied the tank. I feel like I’m a lot more confident coming into it.”

It is an interesting contrast in personality styles, with the bold and sometimes confrontational Kyrgios on the opposite end of the spectrum to the mild mannered Raonic.

Whilst his exploits on court have been fantastic so far, culminating in a straight sets victory to lead his tournament back to the heavy-hitting Canadian, Krygios’ fiery persona has drawn the ire of the sporting populous.

The 20-year-old Canberran has shown a petulance throughout his opening two matches that has seen heated discussions with linesman and chair umpires.

If he is to match or surpass his phenomenal run of last year, concentrating on the elements of his game he can control is imperative.

Krygios’ opponent would not be drawn into a debate over the young Aussie’s on court antics.

“I really couldn’t care less,” Raonic said.

“My job is to go out and find a way to win a tennis match.”

Raonic’s mentality and professionalism is diametrically opposed to that of Nick Kyrgios, but their on-court talents are strikingly similar.

Both men possess similar types of weapons on the court, with huge serves and strong foreheads. It promises to be a real slugfest if both men find their range early in the piece.

The rematch of last year’s quarter-final pits two men with strikingly similar games but contrasting personality styles.

Both men have breezed through their opening two rounds of the tournament thus far, and come in with terrific form – which bodes well for a frenetic and entertaining match up.

A lot will come down to whether each man can hold serve. Both Kyrgios and Raonic rely heavily on their big serves which could lead to multiple tie-breaks in the match.

Last year’s match went to a four set tie-break, and with Kyrgios’ new found confidence in his conditioning there is no reason why the 26th seed cannot match those deeds and perhaps trouble Raonic.

It looks like it will be the match of the tournament so far, and there is every chance it could go the distance and go to five sets, but Raonic’s experience should see him progress past the fiery Australian and book his place in the fourth round.
