After a day off on Sunday, the ladies and gentlemen return to action in the 2021 Wimbledon Championships on Monday for the final matches of the round of 16. Monday’s winners will punch their ticket into the quarterfinals, with the women playing on Tuesday and the men playing on Wednesday. Here are our top Wimbledon betting plays for the remainder of the fourth round.
Ons Jabeur (+113) vs Iga Swiatek (-133)
Ons Jabeur shook off a 7-5 loss in her first set against Garbine Muguruza to win the second set 6-3 and the third set 6-2 in Friday’s third-round matchup. Jabeur is in fantastic form right now and is thriving on grass; she picked up her first career WTA Title at the Birmingham Classic two weeks ago and has carried that momentum into a strong showing at Wimbledon thus far.
Iga Swiatek has coasted through the first three rounds at Wimbledon with straight-set wins over Hseih Su-wei, Vera Zvonareva, and Irina-Camelia Begu. With all due respect to those ladies, Swiatek will be getting a sharp uptick in competition here. Swiatek defeated Jabeur 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 when these two last met in July of 2019, but both have improved quite a bit since then.
This should be a really fun matchup between two women who have played very well thus far in the tournament. It could easily go either way, making the value on Jabeur getting underdog odds here too nice to pass up on.
Ons Jabeur 2-1
Alexander Zverev (-342) vs Felix Auger Aliassime (+287)
Alexander Zverev simply has Felix Auger Aliassime’s number. Zverev defeated Auger Aliassime 6-1, 6-4 in their first meeting at Monte-Carlo in 2019, then again by a score of 6-3, 6-1 in their next meeting at the China Open in 2019, and most recently with a 6-3, 6-3 straight sets win at the Bett1Hulks Indoors event last October. The German even came out on top in May when the two met in a doubles match as Zverev and his partner Tim Putz defeated Auger Aliassime and Hubert Hurkacz 6-2, 6-4.
There just isn’t anything we’ve seen so far at Wimbledon that would suggest bettors should expect anything different this time around. Zverev has only dropped one set across three convincing victories over Tallon Griekspoor, Tennys Sandgren and Taylor Fritz. Auger Aliassime’s third-round match against Nick Kyrgios got cut short after the second set when Kyrgios was forced to withdraw with an abdominal injury. Look for a relatively easy win for the chalk in this one.
Alexander Zverev 3-1
Coco Gauff (-125) and Angelique Kerber (+102)
Two years after captivating the tennis world with her incredible performance as a 15-year-old at Wimbledon, the 17-year-old Coco Gauff is at it again in 2021. Gauff isn’t catching anyone by surprise this time; she has been the favorite in each of her first three matches against Francesca Jones, Elena Vesnina and Kaja Juvan and has played like one with straight-set wins in all three of those matches.
Angelique Kerber has shown a ton of fight through her first three matches at Wimbledon. She defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 in a thrilling second-round matchup and bounced back from a 2-6 first-set hole to defeat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-0, 6-1 in the next two rounds. Kerber entered this tournament with plenty of momentum after winning the Bad Homberg Open last week.
Kerber is a former Wimbledon champion (2018) in good form fighting for every point. Gauff is a rising star showing no signs of slowing down. It’s difficult to see this not being a great match that requires three sets and over 22 games to determine a winner.
