Champions League odds – Manchester City vs. Liverpool 2nd leg tips

Man City v Liverpool

Man City v LiverpoolTuesday, April 10 – 7:45p.m Local time – City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester, United Kingdom

Manchester City will welcome Liverpool to the Etihad on Tuesday night in what will arguably be Pep Guardiola’s biggest UEFA Champions League match in Mancunian blue.

Up until now, the Manchester derby at the weekend was to be his most sizeable match since moving to England, but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss passed up the opportunity to win the Premier League title against their fiercest rival, Manchester United.

City is unequivocally the best team in the land, having built up a mind-boggling 27 wins from a possible 31 Premier League matches. All they needed to do was to beat Manchester United and go down in history as the team that overcame the most abhorrent enemy, to be crowned champions of England, on home turf.

But after a strong start, England’s best team couldn’t get the job done in the second half as United scored twice to equalise and postpone the title ceremony.

Although victory ensured Manchester City didn’t get crowned Premier League champions on derby day, their performance just delayed the inevitable.

On to the Champions League, where Manchester City find themselves in a spot of bother.

Everything that could have gone wrong inexplicably went wrong, as Manchester City slumped to a shocking 3-0 defeat to Liverpool during the first leg of the quarter-final of the Champions League.

Man City made a mountain out of a mole hill and now have the monumental task of scoring four goals without conceding any in order to avoid expulsion from the elite European competition.

Liverpool prepared for the crucial return leg with a dross 0-0 draw away to Everton during the Merseyside derby over the weekend, but it was the line-up fielded by Jurgen Klopp that spoke volumes about the midweek European tie.

The German made five changes to the team that gloriously thrashed City over the course of last week, while opting not to risk Mohamed Salah, who limped out of the first leg with an injury.

Furthermore, the Liverpool gaffer sparingly used key attacking players like James Milner and Sadio Mane, with timely substitutions as he had one eye on Manchester City.

Klopp will however be without the midfield duo of Jordan Henderson and Emre Can, but Alberto Moreno, Andy Robertson and the high flying Mohamed Salah are all in contention.

Sergio Aguero was put through the paces on Monday but his 15-minute cameo against Manchester United has the Argentine strongly poised for a start after an enforced spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Benjamin Mendy took part in light training as he continues with his recovery, but much like John Stones and Danilo, the Frenchman won’t be available for selection against Liverpool.

Man City vs. Liverpool Match prediction

Manchester City couldn’t break down Liverpool and it doesn’t help that they head into the match on the back end of a second defeat in four days.

Raheem Sterling- who has simply been sensational this season- was at fault for missing two huge chances in the first half against United, but Aguero’s return means Guardiola doesn’t have to play with three wingers upfront; one acting as a false number nine.

Liverpool will go for the killer away goal although City are potentially dumped out of the competition.

Nonetheless with Sergio Aguero starting the match, anything can happen.
