La Liga 2021/22 Matchweek 14 betting picks & value plays

Real Sociedad will try to keep the pressure on the rest of the top teams in La Liga by winning this Sunday at home against Valencia. We’ve got a pick in that matchup as well as plays for Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna and Barcelona vs Espanyol in this weekend’s La Liga Matchweek 14 best bets.

Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna

Atletico Madrid (6-5-1) has lost only one match this season, but the strong play of Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Sevilla have Atletico stuck in fourth place on La Liga table. To try to keep pace with those teams above them in the standings, Atletico Madrid will need to earn all three points in this weekend’s match at home against Osasuna.

Osasuna (5-4-4) is winless in its last six matches with an 0-2-2 record over that stretch. The club has faced each of La Liga’s top three teams in its last three matches, playing to a 0-0 draw against Real Madrid and losing 2-0 to both Sevilla and Real Sociedad. Since Osasuna hasn’t scored in any of its last three games and Atletico has scored at least two goals in each of its last five, we feel confident taking the home team while laying the points on the spread in this one.

Barcelona vs Espanyol

Even after losing Lionel Messi this offseason, the expectation in Barcelona (4-5-3) was that the club would continue to play at a competitive level with its outstanding young core surrounded by a handful of talented veterans. But after a promising 3-3-0 start, Barcelona is just 1-2-3 over its last six matches including a current winless streak of four straight matches.

Despite their struggles, Barcelona is still going off as a huge -265 favorite against Espanyol this Saturday. Espanyol (4-5-4) has trended towards gritty, low-scoring games this season with only 14 goals scored and 13 goals conceded through its first 13 matches. Betting an outright road win for Espanyol feels a bit ambitious, but getting +420 odds on a draw seems like a very reasonable shot to take in what should be a low scoring and fairly competitive game.

Real Sociedad vs Valencia

Real Sociedad (8-4-1) currently sits atop the La Liga table with 28 points, but Real Madrid and Sevilla both have a game in hand on the first place squad. Those games will eventually be made up, but in the meantime, Sociedad must keep winning to maintain the league’s top spot on the table. The club hasn’t lost since its season opener against Barcelona, compiling an 8-4-0 record since then.

Valencia (4-5-4) has one of La Liga’s most explosive offenses with 21 goals scored in 13 matches but also its second worst defense having conceded 20 goals in 2021-22. It will be interesting to see how this Valencia attack fares against a Real Sociedad defense hat has conceded only 10 goals this season. Sociedad on the moneyline is an option, but we like the OVER 2.5 goals even better as Valencia’s last five games have produced an average of 4.2 goals per game.
