Bundesliga 2021/22 Matchweek 22 betting picks & odds

The top two clubs in the Bundesliga standings are both on the road in Matchweek 22 as Bayern Munich visits Vfl Bochum and Borussia Dortmund faces Union Berlin. Those two matches are included in our Bundesliga soccer betting picks this week along with Friday’s RB Leipzig vs FC Koln matchup.

RB Leipzig vs FC Koln

RB Leipzig (9-4-8) had a three-match winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss on the road to Bayern Munich on Saturday. This has not been the season that Leipzig was expecting in 2021-22 after finishing in the top three on the Bundesliga table in each of the last three years. But after ending December in a 1-1-4 slump, RB Leipzig has been playing better of late with three multi-goal wins and the solid road effort against Bayern.

FC Koln (8-8-5) on the other hand has exceeded expectations this season with a solid campaign to date, most recently defeating SC Freiburg 1-0 at home to improve to 4-1-1 over its last six matches. Koln is undefeated in its last five road matches with a 2-3-0 record, though none of those matches have come against a club as good as RB Leipzig. Leipzig will probably win this one, but there isn’t much value on them as -205 favorites; we’re more inclined to bet on Koln stealing a point getting healthy payout on the draw odds.

VfL Bochum vs Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich (17-1-3) has won each of its last three matches, most recently defeating RB Leipzig 3-2 at home. Bayern has also won eight of its last nine matches, with four of those five wins coming by three goals or more. Earlier this season, Bayern crushed VfL Bochum 7-0 at home. There are plenty of reasons to like Bayern as huge road favorites over this middle-of-the-pack Bochum club.

But we’re going to take Bochum against the spread as two-goal underdogs in this spot. Bayern is coming off of a competitive game against Leipzig and has another competitive game ahead in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 against RB Salzburg just four days after this match against Bochum. VfL Bochum isn’t going to win this game outright and probably won’t even steal a draw, but a one-goal loss to win or a two-goal loss to push seem like very realistic outcomes against a Bayern club that will likely just be going through the motions.

Union Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund

Union Berlin (9-7-4) had a five-game unbeaten streak of 3-2-0 snapped in a surprising 2-0 loss on the road to FC Augsburg. Borussia Dortmund is also coming off of a disappointing loss at home after getting blown out in a 5-2 game against Bayer Leverkusen.

Until Dortmund gives us a reason not to, we’re going to roll with the OVER in their games. Dortmund’s strong offense and suspect defense tends to produce high-scoring game, as evidenced by the fact that each of the last five games the club has played have had five or more total goals. These two clubs scored six total goals when Dortmund won 4-2 in their last meeting in September. Look for this one to go OVER the posted total of three goals as well.
