Hillary the Sportsbet favourite to trump Donald in US election

HILLARY Clinton is the hot favourite to become the next US president, but don’t tell that to Sportsbet.com.au punters.
The bookie reports that, while Clinton has shortened into $1.45 after her rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on Friday, 65 per cent of punters’ dollars are going with the divisive Donald Trump to cause an upset.
Trump has been wound out to $2.70 following the convention, but that has not deterred the punters, Sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Bulmer said.
But he still thinks the election is Hillary’s to lose.
“Hillary gave a rousing speech and off the back of exceptional ones from Barack and Michelle Obama this week, it’s very much her election to lose and over the next few months we’re going to see the most interesting run in to a US election ever,” Byrne said.
Clinton was at her charismatic best in front of an adoring crowd at the Wells-Fargo Centre, home of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Thanking husband Bill and daughter Chelsea, Clinton became the first ever woman to accept a presidential nomination for a major party.
“None of us can raise a family, build a business, heal a community, or lift a country totally alone,” Clinton said.
She did not spare Trump in her rousing speech, hammering him over his ego-centric promise to “Make America great again” – all by himself.
She said people needed to be wary when someone says “I alone can fix it.”
“Isn’t he forgetting troops on the front lines?” she asked.
“Police officers and fire fighters who run toward danger?
“Doctors and nurses who care for us? Teachers who change lives?
“Entrepreneurs who see possibilities in every problem?
“Mothers who lost children to violence and are building a movement to keep other kids safe?
“He’s forgetting every last one of us.
“Americans don’t say. ‘I alone can fix it.’ We say, ‘We’ll fix it together’.
“Donald Trump’s not offering real change.
“He’s offering empty promises.
“What are we offering? A bold agenda to improve the lives of people across our country—to keep you safe, to get you good jobs, and to give your kids the opportunities they deserve.”
Who knows what will happen, but while Hillary certainly has her knockers and perhaps a chequered past, the uncertainty and fear over Trump could spell disaster for the world, if America decides he is the one they want to lead it.
Next US president:
Hillary Clinton ($1.45, in from $1.50)
Donald Trump ($2.70, out from $2.63)

Will China endorse Rudd after Turnbull’s snub?
FORMER Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was seen as the presumptive choice for Australia’s nomination for the UN Secretary General post, to be vacated by Ban Ki-Moon in December.
But it appears some tit for tat politics has quelled the Labor man’s chances, with Liberal Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull refusing to endorse his nomination, saying he was “not well-suited” to the role.
“I do not want to add to Mr Rudd’s disappointment, but the threshold point here is when the Australian Government nominates a person for a job, particularly an international job like this… do we believe the person, would-be nominee is well suited for that position?” Turnbull asked.
“My judgment is that Mr Rudd is not, and I’ve explained to him the reasons why.”
Sportsbet.com.au spokesman Will Byrne said the bookie had pushed out Rudd’s chances of replacing Ki-moon from $21 to $34, in the wake of Turnbull’s captain’s call.
“But Rudd has an uncanny way of reshuffling the cards he’s dealt and China is leading the pack to recommend him for the post at odds of $3 ahead of the UK $5.
Rudd is a much-loved figure in China, speaking fluent mandarin and having served as a former diplomat.
Sportsbet have also opened a market on what’s next for Rudd with taking a role at Queensland University as a lecturer the $7.50 favourite, becoming host of Q&A a $34 chance and re-entering Federal politics a $51 shot.
“You have to feel sorry for Rudd, he must feel like Turnbull reopened that scar on his back that Gillard left, he’ll have to go back to the drawing board now for his World domination masterplan, again,’’ Byrne said.
