Glover Teixeira will make his first UFC Light Heavyweight title defense this Saturday against Jiri Prochazka in the main event of UFC 275. Here’s our preview and prediction for this highly anticipated matchup that will take place at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Glover Teixeira record, stats & form

Glover Teixeira (33-7-0) became the second-oldest champion in UFC history when he defeated Jan Blachowicz for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship at UFC 267 two days after his 42nd birthday. Teixeira turned 38 in October of 2017 and entered 2018 in the midst of a 2-3-0 slump, but he hasn’t lost since with a 6-0-0 run that includes four submission wins and one knockout victory. The champion has been an underdog in his last two fights against Thiago Santos and Blachowicz before winning both of those fights with a rear-naked choke submission.

Jiri Prochazka record, stats & form

Jiri Prochazka (28-3-1) has been a one-man wrecking crew in mixed martial arts for close to a decade now. Prochazka is 22-1-1 over his last 24 professional fights with a staggering 20 knockouts over that stretch. He is currently on a 12-fight winning streak that includes knockout wins in each of his last 10 fights. The former Rizin Light Heavyweight Champion has opened his career in the UFC with a pair of second-round knockout wins over Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes.

Teixeira vs Prochazka betting predictions

It’s tough to imagine this fight going five rounds. Only two of Teixeira’s last 13 wins have come by decision and only one of Prochazka’s 32 career fights have gone to the judge’s table. These two men will be fighting for the win right out of the gate, and we’ll almost certainly see a new champion by way of a Prochazka knockout or the title defended with a Teixeira submission victory.

And the betting odds seem to pretty accurately reflect the likelihood of both outcomes. Prochazka is the younger and more dangerous fighter, and it feels more likely that he’ll be the one to come out on top here. Then again, Teixeira has consistently defied the odds in recent bouts, and his experience and ability to score timely submission maneuvers could guide him to another upset win here. It’s a tough call to make, but we think that Prochazka’s superior power and athleticism propel him to the win in this spot.
