The Legends Bay Casino just announced it will be open to the public on Tuesday, August 30. The casino will become the first new casino property in 26 years situated in the Reno-Sparks metropolitan, Nevada. The casino allegedly cost $120 million to construct and took 15 years to complete. The casino will open to the public at 8 p.m. on the launch day.
Olympia Gaming, known for opening the Carson City Casino Fandango in 2003, handled the casino project. The division is a part of the developer company, Olympic Companies, which developed Las Vegas Skye Canyon communities and the master-planned Southern Highlands.
The CEO of Olympia Companies, Garry Goett, released a statement about the project and how much work it required. “It’s an honor and a privilege for us to open the first new casino in Northern Nevada in a very long time. We have been working tirelessly to bring this project to life for many years. From our one-of-kind restaurants to the very first Circa Sports sportsbook, we’ve designed Legends Bay Casino to offer the best-in-class in gaming, dining, and sports.”
The casino’s 80,000 square feet will be split in two, and one-half will be used to carry out casino operations. The floor will have over 650 video poker and slot machines, as well as a high-limit slot room. There will also be 10 live table games like roulette, blackjack, craps, Ultimate Texas Hold ‘em, three-card poker, Pai Gow poker, and keno. A one-million-dollar progressive game will be included in the live keno.
The restaurants located on the property include the 24-hour LB Grill and Duke’s Steak House. Several vintages restored trucks will be available in the Food Truck Hall, including the Loco Bueno held in a 1969 Chevy P30 Step Van, the Red Classic hosted in a 1955 Ford Vanette, and Pizza Genius, which will be featured in a farm truck from the 1940’s era.
To make up for the location’s lack of a hotel, the Hampton Inn & Suites, close to the Hilton and Residence Inn, has over 200 hotel rooms and suites for customer use.
Derek Stevens’ Circa Sports will handle the sportsbook for the venture and become the first sportsbook in Northern Nevada. The Las Vegas-based company became well known after welcoming professional sports bettors who were commonly ignored by big-name sportsbooks.
The co-owner of Circa Sports, Stevens, revealed that entering Northern Nevada had been in the plans for a while and that Legends Bay Casino was the right fit. He said, “I’ve wanted to get to Northern Nevada for a while now. I just had to find the right fit. I knew right away that this was the right spot.”
The year 1995 marked the last time a casino was built from scratch in Reno-Sparks. The casino in question was the Silver Legacy, located in downtown Reno. Olympia envisioned Legends Bay as far back as 2006 and purchased the land then.
The regional president of the company said, “We found a grandfathered gaming license in Sparks that was actually movable from one location to another. So we purchased that gaming license.”
The original plan cost $500 million and envisioned a hotel-casino with 1,000 rooms. The location would also have a lakefront amphitheater. However, the Great Recession in 2008 made the developer company downsize its plans for the location several times. The Mint Casino, a shut-down Sparks gaming establishment, ended up giving Olympia the boost it needed.
