Who will win Super Bowl 53?
The Patriots (+675) have Brady back, but Julian Edelman is coming back from an ACL injury and is suspended for the first four games of the season and Rob Gronkowski has to stay healthy. Even with a less than stellar WR corps and a decent, at best, run game Brady seems to get it done no matter who is on the field. The defense was solid last season until the Super Bowl and the return of Dont’a Hightower will help them on that side of the ball.
The Eagles (+900) are the defending champs and Carson Wentz is back under center and Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles is also back, but as a backup. Alshon Jeffrey leads a solid WR corps and Philly can run the ball with the duo of Jay Ajayi and Corey Clement. The Eagles’ D ranked 4th in the league last season in points allowed and may be better this season with the return of Jordan Hicks.
Does Big Ben have another run to get the Steelers (+1100) to the Super Bowl in him? Antonio Brown and running back Le’Veon Bell are back and two of the best in the league even though the latter has had contract issues and will be playing on the franchise tag. The defense ranked 7th in the league last season and they replaced some names in the secondary to not only get younger, but to help defend the pass better.
Well, the Rams (+1150) were the feel-good story of the year last season and with Jared Goff and Toddy Gurley in the backfield they will not surprise anybody this season. They have a legit WR corps with addition Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods and while the team was balanced last season they did not rank in the top 10 in the league in passing or rushing yards per game. L.A. has a very tough schedule not only in the NFC West, but they also face the Raiders, Chargers, Packers, Saints, Eagles, and Chiefs.
The Vikings (+1250) have a great defense and they are banking that Kirk Cousins can lead them to the Super Bowl. They broke the bank to get their guy under center and he has the weapons and if RB Dalvin Cook can recover from his ACL injury and produce Minnesota will be a tough team to beat.
The Packers (+1300) will likely battle it out with the Vikings for the NFC North crown and it is pretty obvious that Aaron Rodgers has to stay healthy. The team brought in a legit TE in Jimmy Graham, but the release of Jordy Nelson was a little puzzling. Green Bay’s first and second round draft picks were both CB’s picked up to bolster a defense that only ranked 25th in the league last season in points against.
Drew Brees (+1700) is back for another season in the Big Easy and the Saints have a great RB duo in Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara. The defense was pretty good last season (10th in the league in points against), but Ingram is out for the first four games of the season due to a suspension and it will be tough to get out of the NFC South battling out with the Falcons and Panthers.
The Chargers (+2000) finished strong last season after an 0-4 start and Phillip Rivers passed for 4,515 yards with only 10 INT even though his WR corps was decimated by injuries. If the WR’s can stay healthy, especially Keenan Allen, RB Melvin Gordon can move the chains on the ground, and the defense improves with their several additions the Bolts are a team to watch out for.
The Falcons (+2100) made the playoffs last season, but their offense was not as dynamic as the previous season when they made the Super Bowl. Still, with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones they can light up the scoreboard and the defense is young and ranked 8th in the league last season in points allowed. It was mentioned before they play in a tough division and have to deal with the Panthers and Saints.
The Jags (+2200) made it to the AFC title game, but could not hold a 10-point 2nd half lead in the loss to the Patriots. Blake Bortles is back and has to avoid the mistakes and the team will lean heavily on RB Leonard Fournette, who rushed for 1,040 yards last season. Their D was not bad either ranked, as the Jags 2nd in the league only allowing an average of 16.8 ppg.
