Are Cam Newton and his crazy pants worth a Super Bowl MVP bet?

CAROLINA Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was the shining light at the Super Bowl 50 media day, which kicked off Super Bowl week in San Jose, California.
Opposing quarterback Peyton Manning even went as far as to say Newton could be the face of the franchise for the next eight to 10 years, and Newton didn’t disagree.
“Anything the Sheriff says, you can probably ink it in gold,” Newton said about Manning’s comments.
Newton, who sported some standout black and gold Versace pants and a Gatorade towel wrapped around his head, was the centre of attention.
“The black-and-gold attire I had in my closet was extremely limited,” Newton claimed.
“So when I looked at my pants, I said, ‘These are black and gold, the shoes are black and gold to tie along with the whole Super Bowl 50 black and gold.’
“Every time I put on an attire, every single morning of my life, it’s a must-win attire.
Cam Newton is $9 to score the first Super Bowl touchdown with Sportsbet.com.au.
Possibly detracting from his on-field skills – which are out of this world – Newton is known for his post-touchdown celebrations, which have included doing the Dab, ripping down banners and typically gifting the game ball to kids in the stands.
“I’ve said this since day one,” Newton said prior to media day. “I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.”
Newton scored an incredible 45 touchdowns this season, which should secure him the NFL MVP award on Sunday and he is loving every part of being a Super Bowl quarterback.
“I don’t get nervous,” Newton said.
“I’ve been playing football for too long for me to get nervous. I used to dream of being in this type of position.”
When asked who Cam Newton is, he responded, “A Super Bowl quarterback.”
Manning shuns talk about playing his final game
Everywhere you look, people are saying this will be Peyton Manning’s last NFL game, but his contract isn’t up and we’re guessing it all depends on whether his Denver Broncos win or lose next Monday.
For former Super Bowl winner (Indianapolis Colts) Manning, it has been more about staying in the moment and not looking past the upcoming game in San Jose.
“I’ve tried to stay in the moment, tried not to look back,” Manning said.
More has been said about Manning’s arm strength than anything else in his game this season, and at the age of 39, that has to be worrisome for punters looking to take the $2.90 at CrownBet.com.au.
“My arm is what it is,” Manning said.
“Honestly, my having a little time off to heal my foot helped some of the other parts. My arm feels OK. My arm has not been the same since I was injured four years ago. If I could throw left-handed it would be a lot easier.”
Manning is understanding that this could be his last NFL game, but he also hinted that the mystical fountain of youth could strike and he might play for another 10 years.
“At some point after the season, I’ll have that comprehensive analysis, I’m at peace with it,” Manning said.
“Brady’s [Tom Brady] gonna play until he’s 70. Belichick’s [Patriots coach Bob Belichick] gonna coach till he’s 90. Maybe I hit the fountain of youth sometime in the next month and play another 10 years. Maybe we play in 10 more championships against each other,” Manning quipped.
Broncos general manager and former Super Bowl-winning quarterback John Elway retired after winning his Super Bowl, but doesn’t know what Manning has planned for the future.
“No, he has not [said if it will be his last game], we have not talked about that at all, and I’m not going to bring it up,” Elway said.
“That’s something he’s going to have plenty of time this offseason to think about. That’s when you have to do it. You’re not going to make your mind up while you’re still playing.
“I want him to cherish the moment that he has now, and he can think about that this off-season.”
Panthers vs. Broncos Super Bowl 50 MVP market
There are always plenty of variables for betting the Super Bowl MVP. One player could play well for the entire game and win, or a player could come up with one amazing play late in the game and steal the honours.
This season the bookmakers have Cam Newton as the firm favourite with Peyton Manning installed on the second line of betting. We think the Broncos’ defense will again come up trumps in this game, so the likes of Von Miller and Aqib Talib could be worth a chance at big odds.
