Tom Aspinall has renewed his attempts to draw Jon Jones into a fight for the UFC heavyweight title after Alex Pereira lost his belt at UFC 313 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Reigning heavyweight champion Jon Jones had been eyeing a fight against Pereira next, instead of interim champion Aspinall.
However, with Pereira losing by unanimous decision to Magomed Ankalaev, Aspinall believes a fight between Jones and Pereira is now off the table.
“Jon: There’s only one thing to do, mate,” Aspinall said in a video released on Sunday.

“Jones vs. Pereira is off the table now.”
UFC CEO Dana White echoed Aspinall’s sentiment in his own comments following UFC 313, expressing confidence that Jones vs. Aspinall will happen.
“Listen, Jon Jones definitely wants the fight [against Aspinall],” White said on Saturday.
“Just when and where is what we’re working on now.
“I’m very confident that fight happens.”
While no date is set for the bout, leading UFC betting sites are still offering odds for the clash.
As for Pereira, White believes the Brazilian should stay in the light heavyweight division and focus on conquering his competition there first.
“When you’re trying to ask a guy to move up two weight classes to heavyweight and take on the greatest of all time… there are still tough guys to fight in the light heavyweight division,” he said.
“I believe in moving up after you clean out divisions.

“And this division wasn’t cleaned out yet.”
Aspinall stated on Sunday that he believes a rematch between Pereira and Ankalaev is also the next logical move.
“Alex Pereira’s run as champion is done for now,” he said.
“In my opinion, an immediate rematch should be next.
“Alex Pereira is a massive, massive star in the sport of MMA. Massive.
“He lost his title, but the run he has been on warrants an immediate rematch, in my opinion.
“Magomed Ankalaev, to me, looks like he’s got his number. It looks like the same thing could happen again, in my opinion.
“I want to see it again. I absolutely want to see that fight again. It was a great fight.”
