Day 10 at the Australian Open brings the first of Melbourne’s quarter-final matchups. We take a closer look at some of the best bets to make as the tournament enters its final stages, including one big upset in the men’s draw.
Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz have played some epics over the past two years. All signs point towards this being another. Alcaraz is the favourite to win, but it will not be one-sided.
Djokovic historically plays his best tennis in Melbourne, while the opposite is true of Alcaraz. Neither is likely to win in straight sets, considering both players have got on the board in five of their seven meetings. Back the over 3.5 sets line for a handy -200 return at Nags.bet.
Coco Gauff and Paula Badosa have played some tight matches in the past. Their head-to-head record sits at 3-3, but the matchup has shifted in favour of the American with Gauff winning both matches last year.
Gauff has played the better tennis of the pair so far this Australian Open. However, she is not likely to defeat Badosa easily. Both matches in 2024 went to three sets, and this one should be close as well. Betting on the match to go three sets is a little risky, but over 21.5 games offers a great price at most tennis bookmakers.
Tommy Paul has beaten Alexander Zverev both times they have played, and the American is on fire right now. He is striking the ball as cleanly as ever, and that can trouble the German with his pace.
If Paul continues bombarding from the baseline, and Zverev’s serve gives under pressure, he could extend his record to 3-0. It is more likely that Zverev wins in four, but with odds of +230, there is value in backing Paul to upset the world No.2.
