More tennis action is set to take place in Melbourne as the Quarter Finals of the 2022 Australian Open continues this Wednesday.
While the hot weather is predicted to play its part earlier in the day, the chaotic city is predicted to serve up some afternoon thunderstorms for a change of pace.
Daniil Medvedev is relatively new to the world of tennis at 25-years-old, but he will be the oldest competitor in Wednesday’s Men’s singles Quarter Finals.
Jannik Sinner (20), Stefanos Tsitsipas (23) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (21) are all searching for their inaugural Grand Slam victory, but can the young men take down the outright betting favourite in Daniil Medvedev?
On the Women’s end of the spectrum, two big upsets have forced Simona Halep and Aryna Sabalenka to pack their bags and head home.
Alize Cornet and Kaia Kanepi have both exceeded expectations and advanced to their first Australian Open Quarter Finals, but will their astounding winning-form continue?
Jannik Sinner ($1.65) vs Stefanos Tsitsipas ($2.20)
Jannik Sinner was ultra-impressive in his straight-set victory over Alex De Minaur in the fourth round, as the young Italian was near-unstoppable against the in-form local prospect.
Sinner is surprisingly at short odds against world no.4 Stefanos Tsitsipas, as the Greek star barely scraped through his most recent game against Taylor Fritz.
Tsitsipas is a very enticing option at long odds given his recent trip to the 2021 French Open Final, but he has not looked like his usual self on the hard court, which is why we are leaning towards the Italian.
Jannik Sinner to win 3-1
Felix Auger-Aliassime ($5.75) vs Daniil Medvedev ($1.13)
This massive clash between Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev will be the first match between two top 10 ranked Men’s competitors. Medvedev is the hot favourite with to take out the tournament and win his first Australian Open, but Auger-Aliassime will provide a great challenge.
The 21-year-old Canadian struggled in his first and second-round matchups, but he steadied the ship against Daniel Evans and Marin Cilic with two solid victories. Medvedev took three and a half hours to dismiss Maxime Cressy, which will add to his overall fatigue heading into the Quarter Finals.
If Felix can bring the same energy to this Quarter Final that he brought to his last two matches, you can expect a long and tight contest at Rod Laver Arena.
Total Match Games Over 35.5
Danielle Collins ($1.31) vs Alize Cornet ($3.35)
Danielle Collins and Alize Cornet will face off against each other for the first time in history, and what a time for your first clash. Collins is one of four Women’s competitors priced under $10 to win the Australian Open, while Cornet sits at the bottom of the outright market at $34 with the online sportsbooks.
Collins will have to be on her toes in this contest, as anyone who can beat former world no.1 Simona Halep is a worthy opponent. This is Cornet’s 17th appearance at the Australian Open, and it looks as though her experience is paying dividends.
Cornet also beat world no.3 Garbine Muguruza in the second round, which gives us confidence she can win at least one set this Wednesday.
Alize Cortnet To Win 1 Set
Iga Swiatek ($1.21) vs Kaia Kanepi ($4.30)
Kaia Kanepi continues to surprise us each time she steps on the court, as the 36-year-old managed to knock out world no.2 Aryna Sabalenka in a third set tiebreaker.
We thought Kanepi’s endurance would be her biggest hinderance, but the Estonian has been exceptional in that department so far.
Iga Swiatek is the hot favorite to win this match, and we have to agree with the online Tennis betting sites on this occasion. The Pole had a slight hiccup against Sorana Cirstea in the opening set of their fourth-round clash, but Swiatek was not deterred and eventually came away with the victory.
Iga Swiatek to win 2-0
