Bayern Munich draw 1-1 with Leverkusen, retain Bundesliga lead

Bayern Munich news

Bayern Munich drew 1-1 with champions Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena on Saturday in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen struck first in the 31st minute through German midfielder Robert Andrich, before the hosts leveled things eight minutes later through a stunning half-volley by Aleksander Pavlovic.

Despite unleashing a series of attacks at the Leverkusen goal, Bayern were forced to share the spoils after failing to score a second goal.

Nevertheless, despite dropping points for the first time this soccer season, Vincent Kompany’s men remain top of the Bundesliga standings with 13 points, two points ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig, and three clear of Leverkusen in third.

Speaking after the intense soccer match, Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso was content with the draw.

“Today was tough, yeah,” Alonso said.

“We also got a draw here last season, but today was tough.”

“They don’t give you a lot of chances to breathe. We had to be very disciplined and sacrifice. I’m proud of the team. I’m happy with the point.”

Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany, conversely, was disappointed by the result.

“As Bayern coach, you always want to win at home,” said Kompany after the game.

“The way the game went was what we wanted. The important thing is that we keep going and trust that we can win so many games.”

“You don’t normally get that many chances in a game like this. We had them, so it’s a shame we didn’t win.

“It was a top match, and it looked like a top match.”

Bayern will be in Champions League action on Wednesday night, with online betting sites paying -131.58 for the Bavarians to defeat Aston Villa (+321) at Villa Park.

Meanwhile, Leverkusen will welcome AC Milan to the BayArena in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Bovada backing the Bundesliga champions (-138.89) to beat the Serie A side (+353).
