Best bets and PSL odds for Orlando Pirates vs. Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer vs Orlando

Kaizer vs OrlandoSaturday, March 3 – 3:30p.m Local time – FNB Stadium, Johannesburg.

It will be a culmination of pomp, color and spite when Orlando Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs in what is quite rightly one of the fiercest and biggest sporting spectacles on the African continent.

The cats will be set among the pigeons during the second Soweto derby of the season; this one promising more than the reverse fixture last October, or the other 21 meetings in the PSL that have ludicrously ended in draws.

The FNB Stadium, infamously known for hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup final between the Netherlands and Spain, will host the showdown which will have a projected capacity crowd of 88,000 spectators. Although Chiefs will be playing on their home turf, it will be at the expense of being the away team, due to the huge attraction that the derby commands.

Both teams have shown flashes of their best form this season, but it is the Bucs who have the extra edge heading into the derby as they are second on the ABSA Premiership log with 36 points; a point above Steve Komphela and his ranks.

The Soweto derby may be hogging all the headlines, but both clubs still remain under the shadow of Mamelodi Sundowns. The Brazilians, who have won the League titles a record seven times, currently lead the log with 40 points; four [points] above second placed Pirates.

Micho Sredojevic has received a massive lift with the return of deputy captain Abbubaker Mobara. The Bafana Bafana international has been sidelined since the start of the year due to a groin injury, but looks poised to bolster his sides’ chances with a commanding performance in the middle of the park.

Augustine Mulenga’s debut for Chiefs has been prolonged due to injury, but the 28-year old will have to pass a late fitness test in order to gauge his preparedness for the derby.

Save for Kabelo Mahlasela, who has been struggling with a knee injury, Steve Komphela has a full house ahead of the mouth watering clash at the Calabash.

Orlando Pirates vs. Kaizer Chiefs match prediction

Pirates are unbeaten in six of their last seven games, with their most recent result being a 4-2 victory over Chippa United.

Chiefs however are on an unbeaten run of nine matches in the Premiership, which would have been a pleasant feat had they not drawn four of them.

The Buccaneers have had a leaky defense this season and have only maintained relevance in the chase for the title due to their forward line that has been working on overtime to outscore opponents.

For the Amakhosi, Itumeleng Khune has been the difference between the sticks and it will take some stone-cold finishing on the day to stop the veteran South African shot stopper.

Prediction: Pirates to win – +160 on William Hill
