THE Manchester quinella remains unbroken as we approach the ninth week of the 2017-18 English Premier League season.
While United just about held on for a stalemate at Anfield last weekend, the Citizens smashed seven past Stoke City in an ominous and awe-inspiring display.
Tottenham Hotspur broke their Wembley curse and Watford climbed to fourth place with a 2-1 victory over Arsenal, but the result of the round was Crystal Palace’s shock win over Chelsea for their first points of the campaign.

Chelsea vs. Watford
Saturday, October 21 – 12:30pm GMT – Stamford Bridge, London
Chelsea – -357.14
Draw – +450
Watford – +850
Back-to-back defeats either side of the international break have seen Chelsea slip out of the top four. Key men Alvaro Morata and N’Golo Kante were absent for the defeat to Palace, but the former is expected back for the midweek Champions League clash with Roma.
Just as he did at Hull City towards the end of last season (albeit to no avail), Hornets boss Marco Silva is working wonders at Vicarage Road. Can they make it two in a row against giants of London?
If this was a week earlier, Watford would be a red-hot chance. But with the Blues already stung by defeat to the bottom side, a big response is on the cards.
Everton vs. Arsenal
Sunday, October 22, 2017 – 1:30pm GMT – Goodison Park, Liverpool
Everton – +260
Draw – +260
Arsenal – -105.26
Things are not going so well in the blue half of Merseyside. Two wins from eight games and an inability to put away the likes of Burnley and Brighton bode ill for the Toffees, who could easily find themselves in the relegation zone at round’s end.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is under immense pressure after the loss to Watford. Hornets striker Troy Deeney hit the nail on the head in his post-match presser when he criticised the Gunners’ mental frailties, although it must be noted they have the same number of premiership points as both Chelsea and Liverpool.
This is an interesting matchup to analyse. While Everton have beaten Arsenal only twice in the past 10 years, they have lost only one of their last five meetings at Goodison Park. However, the Blues have struggled to hang with the better sides so far this season, so our money is on the visitors.
Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool
Sunday, October 22, 2017 – 4pm GMT – Wembley Stadium, London
Tottenham – $2.15
Draw – $3.50
Liverpool – $3.20
They say the really good sides can force results even when they aren’t at their best, and that is how Spurs have gone six games unbeaten. A 1-1 draw away at Real Madrid in the Champions League should see the Lilywhites approach this clash with a spring in their step.
Held goalless by a dogged and single-minded Man United at the weekend, Liverpool took out their considerable frustration by blasting seven past poor little Maribor in midweek. Dodgy conversion in front of goal has left Jurgen Klopp and his charges with only one win from their last four EPL games.
Despite Tottenham’s rise in recent years, they have not beaten Liverpool in any competition since 2012. The Reds’ front-to-back defence is starting to gel after a sloppy start to the season, but Harry Kane only needs half a chance to score. A hard-fought draw with a goal at each end sounds about right.
